Hypnosis is a very controversial topic in the eyes of the twentieth-century. Humans recognize hypnosis as a crazy man swinging a stopwatch telling them they are feeling sleepy. They do not recognize hypnosis as a way of therapy or treatment. Hypnosis is a state where a person's brain functions at a different level than when they are awake, and they are very susceptible to suggestion.

Hypnosis that we recognize is stage hypnosis. But, another form of affective hypnosis is clinical hypnosis. Clinical hypnosis can treat pain, depression, anxiety, stress, and bad habits ("What is Hypnosis"). There are three main types of hypnosis. The most widely used is traditional suggestion. So while the conscious brain is trying to figure out the metaphor, the meaning of the metaphor goes directly into your subconscious. The only other major form of hypnosis is Neuro-Linguistic Programming. This type of hypnosis is referred to as NLP. This type of hypnosis is the professional, and hardest to learn, type of hypnosis. This form of hypnosis can completely rewrite or reprogram the brain; NLP will focus on the worst additions, habits, and thoughts. So if a patient has a addition that every time they get nervous they will smoke, than the hypnotist can disassociate the thought of
