Similar to many others in my country, I am proud to be an American. I love my country, and what it provides for it’s citizens. However, I know that I can feel even more honored to be a citizen of the United States of America. I understand that no matter where one goes in the world, he or she will never be able to find a perfect place. A place where everything is great all the time is not realistic at all. But I also know that while there can be on perfection, there can still always be room for improvements. With improvements, I see myself being even prouder to be an American in the future. Personally, I would love to see my vision of America become a reality.

Too many times I have walked into my house coming home from school to hear on the news that peoples lives have been endangered. I'll see all different numbers written across the television screen. I listen to hear the number of people injured, and even dead. Then camera shots of a school, or church, or a workplace, with police cars surrounding the building will be shown. In America, there are more than 10,000 gun homicides annually. This is not comforting in the slightest, especially when I had just come home from school. School, the place that is suppose to be a safe place to go and learn and be with friends. Since 2013, there has been over 150 school shootings in the United States, which is an average of nearly one a week. This is not the vision for America. To make the country a safer place, we can not just hope that shootings do not keep happening. However, the problem is being talked about and argued over constantly. Of course I hear possible solutions to this problem, and I stand by many, like laws controlling the sale of firearms. However, I do not know the exact way to stop people from feeling unsafe. What I do know is that making it known that change is in need is the first
