Being the largest ship built at the time, its sinking on its maiden voyage across the North Atlantic Ocean killed thousands, rich and poor. Slavitt’s “Titanic” and Hardy’s “Convergence of the Twain” protest society’s perceptions and romanticisms of the Titanic with their vivid imagery creating tone. Slavitt insinuates the avoidability of the Titanic's demise while Hardy’s contrasting idea speculates that an Immanent Will created the iceberg specifically for the Titanic. The authors convey their ideas with similar stature but their use of tone focuses the reader on the death of the passengers rather than the glory of the
The author starts with a tone of exhilaration and curiosity being “I suddenly obsessed with the story of the Titanic.” Slowly though she slides into a tone of slack jawed awe and morbid fascination with how “It is awesome that we built them; it is awesome when they fell.” To illustrate this she uses many tools such as facts and figures. Gabbert pulls many of her examples from historic acts of human failure like the Titanic or challenger. To further her point she uses eyewitness accounts and personal experience from these people such the North Tower man who said, “Perhaps I should have continued down that hallway.”
The policy on drunk driving has been a controversial topic for decades, whether it is to deter or punish drunk drivers. Current public policy on drinking and driving includes the blood alcohol content (BAC) standard. The BAC measures the alcohol concentration present in a person’s bloodstream. The level of alcohol concentration often serves as an indicator of how intoxicated an individual is. It is the most accurate form of alcohol impairment measurement currently exists.

The quotes make it more of a tragedy, for example, in the quote “ Of course I should have known he wouldn’t have left without me” This shows the tragedy of his father being gone. This quote also shows how this story is realistic because on the Titanic many people
The Titanic, most definitely man’s greatest accomplishment, is made in Belfast, Ireland, where it is then set off into the open ocean, and set for Southampton, England. From there, on April 11, 1912, 2:00 p.m., the Titanic sets sail for New York. All seems well, and it looks for the first time, that man has built the “unsinkable ship.” However, the hopes, lives, ship and all are cut down by an iceberg and now rest at the bottom of the Atlantic. This horrendous fact was shown in both the book and the movie, “A Night to Remember,” along with many other facts and stories.
Moral Courage How do you think you would you react if you saw a plane in a river full of people in it? Well in the article, “The Man in The Water” a passenger, Park Police and bystanders helped people that were 9in a plane that crashed into the Potomac River in Washington D.C. on Jan 13, 1982. The crash happened near a bridge. The moral courage in the story “The Man in The Water”, Roger Rosenblatt shows that people are willing to help others even if it cost the man’s own life by using setting and characters to support the literary element.
Days Before the Titanic Sat at the Bottom of the Atlantic Ten years of the Titanic’s engineering with only two deaths, and in the consequences of one day, it now sits in the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. “Striking the water was like a thousand knives being driven into one’s body. The temperature was 28 degrees, four degrees below freezing,” stated Charles Lightoller (Metelko). No one would have known or suspected how the voyage was going to turn out. They were four days into the voyage, but the fourth day was the most memorable.
The book “I Survived the Shark Attack” is a thrilling fictional tale about a boy who got attacked by a shark and survived. This tale is based on shark attacks in the summer of 1916. His family is constantly moving because his father is always chasing new business ideas.
This conflict between the baker and the rats is another example highlighting the futile efforts of a person trying to keep an unwanted force from ruining carefully constructed plans. Ultimately, despite their conflict aboard the ship, the rats and the Baker suffered the same fate, drowning at the hands of the iceberg. In conclusion, “The Watch That Ends The Night” demonstrates through the retelling of the Titanic the theme of how people attempt to control their environment to avoid feeling vulnerable to fate. They want to believe they can be in control of their own destiny.
The ship fully sunk at about midway to New York City in the Atlantic Ocean. It was the worst tragedy of its time. (“Disaster strikes aboard”, 1). They decided from now on to have enough lifeboats for everyone on the entire ship, so this tragedy would not occur again (“Disaster strikes aboard”,

In David R. Slavitt’s poem “Titanic,” many poetry elements contribute to the theme: everyone dies and no one can escape death. The theme is portrayed in several ways. Imagery is shown throughout the fourteen lines of the poem and put pictures into the reader’s mind that help to understand the theme. The diction of the poem helps to reinforce this theme of death. The poem’s diction is comical in some ways, but also light hearted when the author describes the many amenities and people that were on the ship the time of the crash.
Titanic was deemed unsinkable because it had 15 watertight bulkheads and a double bottom. The problem with this though was that “the watertight compartment design contained a flaw that was a critical factor in Titanic’s sinking: While the individual bulkheads were indeed watertight, the walls separating the bulkheads extended only a few feet above the waterline, so water could pour from one compartment into another, especially if the ship began to list or pitch forward.” Many people say that the ship was doomed from the start. On April 10th 1912, The Titanic set sail for Cherbourg, France and then to Queenstown, Ireland.
He couldn’t hold himself to explore this massive structure. His dusty shoes left dirt and mud behind, as he walked onto the ship’s deck. People crowded around the rails, chairs were aligned on the wooden wall, and games of toss the ring were being played. The Titanic had recently begun sailing, as he stood along the ramp, and overlooked the soaring waters. He explored the rooms and halls.
