Hostility is all around us, whether it in in our community or even the country as a whole, the feeling of hatred is seemingly unavoidable. However, as citizens of this incredible country, we must stick together, and we must treat one another with the same respect and compassion that we would like to receive ourselves. When I look at the current state of our country, I imagine where we should be. The future of the land of the free entirely rests in our hands. We have the power to determine which route we take, and whether to be a productive citizen, or simply a bystander. Some may argue otherwise, but there is nothing, nothing at all that any one of us can go through alone, school, professions, and any troubles that you may encounter along the way. Above all, for those who choose to risk their lives in order to fight for our country, there is immense trust placed in the hands of those around you. When one falls behind, they are lifted up and encouraged to continue on, knowing that the end reward is worth all the pain and suffering. However, just imagine how much fighting and violence could be avoided if everyone had a mindset similar to that of Rachel Joy Scott. Rachel, an advocate for kindness, lost her life to an act of hate and anger. Many other acts of hate have been committed in our country, including violence against homosexuals and other groups that have been deemed by society as “different.” However, our country, and even the world do not have to be this way. If the citizens of the United States of America find a way to connect and treat each other with kindness and compassion, then there is no limit to what we can accomplish. I know that our country is capable of greatness beyond what we have already seen. Many of our struggles as a country have come from people treating others with a lack of respect.
