One of the reasons I want to go into the medical field is because I feel like it will help me continue to understand the reasons behind why we act the way we do. If we know why we have to fight the tendency of relying on bias or thinking about ourselves over others, we can better navigate how to be who we may want to be. In other words, "I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing." Learning why we have physiological responses to danger and how being selfish may have kept us alive can make us more aware of ourselves, and more equipped to overcome those tendencies in order to be the loving people we were made to be. Not only that, but I would also grow in my ability to love others through patient care with such growing empathy and experience. What summed up my love of these ideas the most was something that was extremely relatable and communicative of this growing of awareness, a piece of work that explained what I still fail to put into words. It's a Disney movie, named Zootopia. Sure the medium may be difficult to take seriously, as it honestly is just a kids' movie, but the ideas about bias that the film presents capture so much about the way the world works. The allegory presented pushes far beyond the average preaching message, and instigates thought about why we're so easily biased. It even touches on why we convince ourselves that our shortsightedness isn't bias at all. The animated film, Zootopia, helps us to become more aware of our moral blind spots by illustrating the idea of bias through predatory versus prey relationships, and demonstrates the difficulty in overcoming our bias because of our physical nature and natural dependency to do what's best for
