In answering the question posted in terms of the nervous conditions, the novel is more of a feminist text and mainly focuses on the oppression of women under patriarchy. The essay will further elaborate on this comment deeply scrutinizing the elements that constitute to the posed comment on the text. In many instances the author rather strikes the reader with a very shocking introduction, the narrator introducing the reader to the death of the brother and mainly the fact that she was happy when her brother died, “I was not sorry when my brother died”( Dangarembga, 1988, p 1). This introduction may be showing the relief that Tambu had felt when the Nhamo died. Further instituting the ideology of the relationship between the two siblings as a not so happy one. Nhamo was a stereotype when it came to her sister letting her do all the work and he would stay with his books. At one point he says it won’t help for Tambu to go to school because she is a girl. The fact that they would make Tambu fetch Nhamo’s luggage if he was returning home that on its own is a very absurd. Why couldn’t he fetch his own bags if they were heavy than they would fetch the bags both of them “I hated fetching my brothers luggage’’ (10). The system of thought has always been more favorable for man rather than women. Can it be said that also Nhamo has adopted such influences from the society at which he lives in and also the family structure, if than this can be said that even the head of the family
