People speak an average of 20,000 words per day. Interestingly, many of those words are used for positive purposes. Even though there is immense hate throughout the world, the words with constructive meanings always shine brighter. The texts I Will Always Write Back and The Book Thief are great examples of that. Words save more lives because they reveal truths, uplift, and inspire. Firstly, words are powerful in that they reveal truths. For example, Edward Snowden released an enormous amount of information from the National Security Agency. The heap of documents sheds light on the malicious tactics the agency was using to spy on the public. One example from I Will Always Write Back is when Caitlin is dealing with harsh times. There are multiple examples of that, but the focus will be on the occasion when she breaks up with her high school boyfriend. Shortly after that event, she enters a somewhat brief period of depression. However, one of Martin’s letters arrives in the mail. This adjusts Caitlin’s mood and boosts her mission to bring Martin over to America. Keep in mind that Caitlin was bent on bringing Martin overseas beforehand. This event only adds fuel to her eternal fire. Without it, Martin may have been unable to transfer across the ocean. The Book Thief contains another excellent example. “Sometimes people are beautiful not in looks, not in what they say, just in what they are” (Zusak ?). Liesel subconsciously follows this quote throughout the majority of the story. She holds this ideal very close when she is in the process of making friends. Rudy called Liesel “saumensch” an infinite amount of times. Liesel did not pay attention to how he looked, even though it was clear that they had affection for each other. She chose to be close friends with him because of his character.The process remains the same with Max and various other characters. When she hits rough patches in life, those friends raised her spirits and allowed her soul to continue trudging on. Her friendships and acquaintances with others also paved the roadways later in the book. To
