Introduction
This assignment will look at the IMI Level 2 Diploma in Motor vehicle Maintenance and Repair course. This is to look at the impact on government funding cuts and how this affects the development of the course, the lecturers who deliver the course content and the effects it has on the students.
City of Wolverhampton College had been delivering this course through the institute of motor industry (IMI) for the past 10 years, the IMI is a world recognised awards body which specifically designs courses for the automotive trade, they have strong links with many manufacturer training providers such as BMW, Volvo and Kia, because of this the IMI wanted to produce an online platform which can be accessed …show more content…

The downside to this is that it is quite time consuming, once the cycle is revised in some way it needs to start again. College’s and awarding bodies have had to adapt to theses economical changes and in doing so have had to re think course frameworks and curriculums, for example the IMI valeting course Level 1 certificate and level 2 diploma are no longer being funded for 16 to 19 year old due to the course being too specific to one subject, the IMI state that “Vocational qualifications for under-16s are now required to give pupils a ‘breadth of learning across a sector’, rather than in one particular job” (http://awarding.theimi.org.uk) and this had led to the Education Funding agency (EFA) no longer funding this course so the IMI have incorporated some sections of it into the full level 1 diploma in maintenance and repair course and added additional subject content so the course fit into the funded bracket.
This year Istudy has also been implemented across the level 2 and 3 motor vehicle diploma courses and this is a direct consequence of the funding cuts being made to FE. The students will now need to sit a one hour session where they will access the college Moodle site and work though online course content without a course specialist/tutor, this year ten percent of the course will need to be carried out by the students with
