As it is, practices are struggling to meet the October 1 ICD-10 compliance deadline. Assigning ICD-10 codes before then will cost real money. For example, if you want to design a billing system, it would have to include both ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes simultaneously. This could prove expensive depending on the healthcare vendor contracts.
We all know that on October 1, 2015 ICD-9 will no longer be precise information in the coding world. It will soon be ICD-10. Which is considered a major long overdue upgrade. It will advance healthcare in many many ways.
How many times have your ICD-10 leadership team asked themselves the question, are we ready for the conversion? The clock is ticking and there’s very little time left for the healthcare organizations that are behind schedule. On October 1, 2015 the healthcare industry will begin to use, process, and exchange ICD-10. Providers and practices should be preparing themselves for the transition and approaching the implementation with confidence.
Myths about ICD-10 So, the ICD-10 deadline whisked past us last week, and even still there are many practices that have not been able to understand the ICD-10 concept fully. Many physicians have been hearing things about ICD-10, most of which are not actually true. As a result, the ICD-10 implementation has been perceived much more complex than it actually is.

A medical biller and coder needs to understand medical terminology when coding for many reasons. ICD-10 codes (both CM and PCS) are really specific, so a coder will need an in depth knowledge not only of medical terminology, but anatomy and physiology as well. To be proficient, a coder should know the organ systems as wells as their parts. A coder and biller should also know where to look for codes related to a certain part of the body. So knowledge of medical terminology is a must.
This provides valuable job skills, but even more importantly, it provides life skills that will serve CNA students well for the rest of their lives. Long term care pharmacists are involved with nursing facilities, often times working with the elderly or the disabled. The benefits include a flexible schedule and the more clinical setting. Negatives include long work weeks and the large amount of time dedicated to paperwork. About a quarter of the pharmacist’s time is dedicated to medication management, another quarter in dispensing, and the rest in data management or patient management.
I came to this conclusion through my shadowing experiences with a perfusionist at a nearby hospital. I was taking medical physiology at the time of my first shadowing, and it was cool to see some relations. But I realized that he knew so much more than me, and he started talking about the base excess levels and how that related to the pH level in the blood stream. Though the second time reassured my drive to pursue perfusion as a career, I was still very curious to learn more of the problem solving process that occurs during the operating room. I realize that how important to build on that knowledge base and to even go beyond what is required to learn new things that might help in case of an unforeseen
Covert use of medication can be seen as dishonest as the NMC code (2015) states respect the level to which people receiving care want to be involved in decisions about their own health, wellbeing and care; the code of practice also states act with honesty and integrity at all times, treating people fairly. In contrast however, Beauchamp and Childress (2009) highlights non disclosure, limited discolour, deception or lying may be considered when veracity and the principle of autonomy is thought to conflict with other ethical obligation. Jean was given the opportunity to understand and evaluate what was being asked and was provided with all relevant information to support their decision making process.
