I am interested in volunteering at Baylor Scott & White Hospital because I want to learn more about how a hospital works. I have always wondered how exactly a hospital is run and how nurses and doctors are able to give their best to each and every patient at the hospital. I want to learn how everything is processed and kept organized. I’m also interested in working a professional atmosphere just to see how it is like. I’ve always gone to hospitals to visit the sick and injured and have recently become curious about how it is like ‘behind the scenes’.
I expect to gain experience from many new things. An example would be how to communicate with others in a more professional manner. I would also probably learn how to keep everything organized in a hospital such as organizing files and papers. By volunteering in a professional building, I will learn the procedures I need to know to be a respectful person and will hopefully be able to administer it in my future career path. I’m having trouble choosing which path I would like to pursue because they are all interesting to me. That is a big reason why I want to volunteer at the hospital. I want to see if this career path is the right path for me to take. I like kids and want to make sure they stay healthy which is a reason why I want to become a pediatrician. However, I also like to make discoveries and do research which makes me want to pursue a career in being a scientist, biomedical engineer, or genetic engineer. Personally, I think genetics is a very intriguing subject, but I’m not sure on whether I should go for it or not.
