Dear Iowa State University Development Committee, In appreciation of the variety of cultures, ethnicities, and backgrounds represented on Iowa State University’s campus, Students4ISU would like to propose an event that would recognize and celebrate the diversity found in the ISU community. The following document details a two-part event of a public concert and international food festival for the students enrolled at Iowa State. Included in the document are specifications for the event, recommendations for student safety, and a cost/profit projection for the event. Iowa State University takes pride in the diversity represented among the student body, who in turn embody the most wonderful elements of ISU’s culture.
This has broadened my view of the world and made me a wiser person. Serving others while listening to their stories enabled me to become an active listener and helped me be more compassionate and ensure treating everyone with respect and dignity regardless of a person’s cultural or social background. Through these experiences, I learned to become more flexible and adaptable to any situation. Also, as a person that truly cares for ensuring equal access to health care for the underserved, Cleveland is the perfect place to start. With this same goal in mind, OU-HCOM Cleveland campus will give me the opportunity to help and make a positive impact on the diversity of Northeast Ohio while gaining hands-on experience.
I hope to bring diversity to all who walk on the campus. My background has shaped me into the intelligent African American woman I am today. Without growing up in the “hood”, I may have not been able to find the best career that interested me. I also would not have been able over all the challenges thrown at me. Instead I remained determined and motivated so that I was able to achieve all of the goals set before me.
Regularly, I work as a volunteer at American Cancer Society. I aspire to assist the one who are on the edge of life. The fight against cancer is tough, and the patients need all the supports that they can get. The volunteer opportunity helps me realize that I’m not the center of the universe, but we are the universe. The best feeling when a person does such thing is the smile on cancer patients’ faces.
People throughout America had different views on how to end segregation, as each state had its own background with segregation and slavery. Oklahoma although it prided itself on never being a slave state it still had segregation, from the 1920s to when schools and public places began to be integrated in the 1960s. In the earlier phases in segregation practices in Oklahoma you could find the Ku Klux Klan marching through downtown Oklahoma City, people recognized and supported the Klan. The Klan recruited Public High School students to join their patronage against the African American community. The segregation occurring within Oklahoma provided the African American community with many hardships, such as not being able to shop in many stores,

Throughout high school I have participated in many different activities and programs, but one of the opportunities I was given I will carry with me forever. As a junior at River Valley I participated in the Marion General Teen Volunteer Program. After interviewing and being placed in the physical therapy unit I took the opportunity to branch out into other areas of the hospital. I soon made my way to the labor and delivery floor where everyday a miracle happened. My duties while volunteering included assisting the nurses during hearing checks, changing diapers, and rocking crying infants in special care.

I never thought that volunteering would bring me much happiness and joy. It feels very nice when you help others and this happens to me every time I prepare and fill the taxes of the people who come to do their taxes to our office. The people who come are people of low income, and my heart feels leno and beats hard every time I help someone. This is my first experience being a volunteer and now I want to
I expect to gain experience from many new things. An example would be how to communicate with others in a more professional manner. I would also probably learn how to keep everything organized in a hospital such as organizing files and papers. By volunteering in a professional building, I will learn the procedures I need to know to be a respectful person and will hopefully be able to administer it in my future career path. I also expect to learn the proper way of dealing with patients.
Volunteering at McKenna Farms Therapy Services I was able to observe pediatric occupational therapy sessions. Not only did I get to observe Occupational Therapy sessions, but I observed Hippotherapy sessions too. What I found so unique about McKenna Farms is that they had Speech Therapist, Physical Therapist, and Occupational Therapist all together at one clinic. This allowed me to witness how the different types of therapy fit together and how the therapist would collaborate to find the best way to treat the children. My favorite part was finding ways to communicate with the kids.
The family is in transition – family structures are growing into exciting new possibilities, due to this, there has been a dramatic increase of diversity in the family and household structures since the earliest centuries. In Africa, our real and perceived blood ties are not bounded by the household or the village, but stretch across communal areas as far as the eye can see and the heart can reach. Traditionally, newcomers would be accepted as part of the family and only excluded only if they spurned the welcome. However, this essay will look at the different family and household structures in the current century, also the diversity of families and understanding the reasons for this diversity and how structures have changed. Families have many different ways they could be defined. I would describe my family as being blended. My brother has a different father than me, and he is still considered family. This aspect is important in my concept of family because even if I do not talk to them everyday, I still have this connection where they will support the decisions that I want to make even if it is not an opinion that everyone agrees with. On the contrary, there is definitely diversity by having a blended family, especially since they have been a part of most of my life.
The situation at the homes of the children also varies – some come from orphanages and others from loving families who accompany them to the hospital. Why is helping other people my passion? It is hard to explain, but essentially I want to be useful to the society, especially to the children who are in desperate need of attention. Coming back home from a long day at the hospital with plenty of emotions, thoughts and plans for the future feels incredible. Due to that, I wonder – do I give more or do I receive more by being a volunteer?
