District Profile The Martin County School District (MCSD) consists of 20 schools servicing more than 19,000 students. The district received an “A” rating from the state of Florida for the 2016-2017 school year, reflecting an increase from a “B” rating in 2015-2016. The district continues to strive to meet the needs of its diverse learners from both an academic and social/emotional perspective, so that students can be successful as they enter life beyond MCSD. The charts below represent the racial make-up of the student and staff populations. Additionally, nearly 40% of the student population is economically disadvantaged.
The memory of each student’s accomplishment will forever be overshadowed by the mess of the Induction Ceremony that was originally meant to acknowledge them. I believe that the event could and should have been more smoothly conducted, for the sake of all involved. However, although the Honor Society Induction Ceremony was disorganized, I am still very honored to have been granted this prestigious award and would not have changed my decision to strive for it, if I was given the chance to begin
Over the next few years North Carolina Central University will be more diverse in the student body because of the world itself is already diversed. NCCU will have more diversity over the next years because of the academics that it provides, the motto that we stand by “Truth and Service” and because of the generous people that work here. Also the professors that teach the students the outstanding knowledge that will lead them and stick with them for the rest of their lives. NCCU was founded by James E. Shepard and opened on July 5, 1910. His reason for building the institution was because in that era in time the support for African American education in the southern states was very limited.
The University of Oklahoma has one of the most diverse student bodies in the nation. Everybody that attends the University of Oklahoma is considered part of the “OU Family”. One thing that has significant importance to the “OU Family” is the involvement with the university and their community. Everybody should be able to contribute to their community. I am the first ever Student Volunteer at Integris Baptist Medical Center; Bennett Fertility Clinic in Oklahoma City.
The Diversity University event was not what I expected it to be. In fact, I had no idea what it was about at all. I literally went around campus to see if anything exciting was going on. I was curious and I saw a promotion board outside of my residence hall. Immediately, I walked over to the Rayburn Student Center where the event was taking place.
My mom and her family came to the United States from Greece with nothing other than some ambition. Their family of five learned quickly they would have to work in order to provide for themselves. Once my mom and dad met, they decided to move to California. They settled in a small town, located in the Bay Area, named Pleasanton. My brother and I were born and raised here.
Have you ever imagined a great America again? One where our diversity made us the greatest country as it once was. Our actions and attitude can make America the great country it one was, so that all of our diversity that makes up our country is accepted. Our country was based on “the melting pot.” Also our country was compared as “the heirs of all time.”
One of my favorite parts of Rutgers University is the ability to meet people that may live only 20 minutes away but have experiences that are a complete contrast to your own. During my first-year at Rutgers University I thought I knew what diversity was, I was raised in Jersey City, one of the most diverse cities in the nation, so when I came to Rutgers I did not expect to find more diversity. At Rutgers, I have had the opportunity to meet people that are not just diverse in culture but also in age and experience. Here I have met a non-traditional student who graduated almost a decade ago and came back to get a second degree after finding a new passion. I have had the opportunity to grow closer with intriguing people such as a triplet, a professional photographer, and a professor who is deaf but defied the odds
Having food on the table, a roof over your head, and a job to make ends meet. It is a basic human right. We live in a global era where all people need one another to survive and succeed. Immigrants bring diversity to the United States, along with their cultures, and skills, which help make us stronger as a nation. Without diversity in our society, we would be self-centered, which means we need immigrants.
The purpose of this proposal is to encourage the College of Liberal Arts at Texas A&M University to create an event for students to connect with their college. The research conducted will determine the feasibility of creating a college festival designed for liberal arts students. The College of Liberal Arts has a diverse student body with people from all walks of life. There are various ways students can exchange ideas in the classroom to learn more about the world today.
Steps toward diversifying STEM fields–such as Kimberly Bryant founding Black Girls Code–are especially beneficial to the cause, but we have to remember that expanding STEM will be a lengthy process; just as it takes numerous, continuous steps to run and finish a marathon, so will the journey for diversity in STEM be as extensive. A diversification in STEM needs to happen. The more variant the minds of tomorrow 's scientists are, the more potential there is for new innovations and inventions. But what is holding this undertaking back is the same thing that hinders equal rights: deep rooted stereotypes in our society.
Being honored for the award led the school to be even more diverse. They engaged themselves so much in racial and ethnic unity which led to intentional diversity because of that the honor for the award was no longer considered, Scheller was told during an interview with Michael Scales and David Turk, the president and provost of the college. (Michael Scales & David Turk para. 1). Intentional diversity
