I always had an interest in learning about different sciences in High School, and knew I wanted to choose a career where I could help people. However, it was not until I was in my senior year, when my father fell sick, I realized my true interest was in medicine and the human body. The doctors would come into his hospital room, explaining what tests they were doing and what medications they were going to give him. Dr. Prives studies mechanisms that occur in the skeletomuscular system to find treatment for muscular dystrophy. I am learning new lab techniques that I only got to read about in my biology classes, and am exposed to more in depth biology. In addition, I read and discuss articles from science journals and learn from his slides that he uses to lecture to medical students at Stonybrook
