“Here in the state championship we have an interesting game between the Carolina Huskies and the Washington Dragons. In this game we will have an interesting matchup at the guard spot as, the electric star from Luokan, a small village in China, will not be playing due to an altercation between him and the coach.” The announcer began with this initial statement before the game finally began. From the bleachers, Min stared intently at his team, the Carolina Huskies, play against the Washington Dragons. The yells and screams of the basketball players echoed through the gym. The players’ shoes screeched and scratched against the polished maple wood underneath them. Screechhh, Skirttt, Screechhh. The dribbling, the continuous thud of the basketball, resonated through the wood, and throughout the whole court. John, the second best player on the team, but still not close to on par with Min, dribbled the ball. But he couldn’t possibly make a shot or crossover with taller Dragons team members blocking his path. Min jogged near John. Then, he reached his arm out, towards this ray of light, towards this ball of success. He intercepted John’s dribble; he stole his “teammate’s ball.” For a moment, the audience was confused. “What just happened? Why would Min steal John’s ball?” announced the commentator. The moment ended when Min drove down the court, like a jeopardy with with wings, only to underhand layup the ball, a beauty to watch. From then on, Min would leap into the air and intercept his teammates’ dribbles and passes. He guarded for himself and shot for himself, for his own success. It was majority versus minority, and a new determination strengthened Min. He wouldn’t let them beat him in a talent he had refined over many years-the countless days, the strenuous efforts, and the wise knowledge of basketball would overthrow the atrocious aristocracy of
