Icy Hot products can be found in a variety of different grocery stores and drugstores. I happened to research the Icy Hot product at a Walgreens, which is considered a drugstore. I do not necessarily believe that this stores physical location is what drives this products success, but it definitely does help. Icy Hot products are sold at stores nationwide and not all of the physical locations can be in primary areas that will only target the products specific market. However, the store that I visited happens to be across the street from a public park and down the street from three different schools ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade. For instance, Walgreens has their own private brand that they sell and they also offer other brands like Salonpas, Aspercreme, and BenGay. Usually when there is a big market for products, private brands begin to pop up and take some of the market share from big name brands. In this case, I believe Walgreens sells Icy Hot and other brands to entice customers in the store for that product with the hope that consumers will see a comparable private brand that is cheaper and buy that. The main products that are around the Icy Hot product are similar in nature, meaning that they are all some kind of topical pain reliever. The main brands that are next to the Icy Hot product are Aspercreme, Salonpas, BenGay, and the Walgreens private brand. Icy Hot and Aspercreme are actually owned by the same company.
