1. Identify and describe the role of a range of key persons involved in the development of this innovation?
Key people with this Australian innovation are:
• Charles Rothauser, in 1956 a Hungarian immigrant named his plastics company Caroma and developed the world’s first one-piece toilet cistern.

Consider all the following factors of Australian culture at the time:
The need for the Dual Flush Toilet has many factors to consider around Australia. All these different factors have contributed to the way in which Australians live nowadays. Some of the major factors of the innovation are:
• Social – in the 1980’s people were becoming more socially aware and there was a need to reduce water consumption. During this time period of 1970 to 2010 Australia’s population almost doubled. This was as a result of a renewed interest to improve the quality of life and optimal health within Australian society. Isolated communities had limited water supply and used drop toilets with possibilities of reduced water volume required to flush toilets and isolated communities could now use flush toilets. This can be seen with an increase in Australia’s population of this time, as seen in the table to the right.
