A great children’s book teaches a lesson in a creative way that captures the audience. I, personally, am a big fan of reading certain children’s books because of their life lessons that they share. Most of the books I chose to read to a group of children, my cousins and littlest sister, were children’s books my mother had given me throughout my high school experience because of their lessons of life. These books include The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein, I Wish You More by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Tom Lichtenheld, Oh, the Places You’ll Go! By Dr. Seuss, and You’re Here for a Reason by Nancy Tillman. The last book, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Joffe Numeroff, is a book I remember trying to read to my younger sister when we were children. …show more content…
By Dr. Seuss. I enjoy books from Dr. Seuss because of the playful rhythm of the words but I feel that they don’t teach as many useful lessons as other children’s books may do. In addition, I don’t really like the made up words because then it kind of shows children that they could just make up any word for a situation which leads them away from actually trying to learn the correct words for things. Some of the books were more of a success than others like You’re Here for a Reason and If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. The others were a bit more questionable on whether I would read it to a group of 3-5-year-olds that I was not related to. These books that I chose to read were children’s books that I already had and held dear to my heart. However, I feel that some of them were probably a bit out of the age range for the children. I do know that I would love to continue reading children’s books no matter what because of how playful the words flow. I knew that I would enjoy this experience because of my background in reading to children. Not only did I have little sisters that I read to but I was also involved in San Joaquin A+ in elementary school. This non-profit organization supports literacy programs to help improve students’ reading skills. During this time that I was involved with them, I read to a couple classes of second grade and below with children’s books that they provided with me. So I’m quite familiar with reading to children and already know that it is something that I quite
