The image drawn by Jerry Holbert (image 1) and the image drawn by Tom Stiglich (image 2) are classic examples of political cartoons. They are similar in the fact that they are both about the North Korean and United States diplomatic debate. This debate is about if North Korea is a threat or not and if should something be done to stop them if they are. Although the two images cover the same topic, they show different viewpoints on how they believe America will handle the conflict. The key differences in how the political cartoons establish their purposes and achieve their persuasive techniques are through the balance of humor and symbolism. The rhetorical aim of image 1 is to convince the reader that the outcome will be that America will use force to solve the problem. The image is effective in achieving that aim. They use Uncle Sam to represent the United states and Kim Jong Un to represent North Korea. The text is beneficial in achieving this aim. He combines the Trump and Kim Jong Un, to represent their countries, and Dr. Seuss characters thing 1 and thing 2, to use humor and show how similar the two leaders are. By using the fictional characters he is saying they are very similar people. Both of the leaders are saying meaningless threats. This is the way the Stiglich shows how current North Korean and American arguments are. His angle of vision is that America and North Korea will not use force to solve their arguments and will instead only make hollow threats. He believes that both countries are not willing to start a war, but both want to seem
