Have you ever wondered what is it like to live a life as a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipient? Let me tell you from experience what this is like. A DACA recipient is an undocumented person who came to the U.S. as a child and was granted protection under the DACA program. The program was passed in 2012 by the Obama administration and allows the recipients to be protected from deportation for two years. After those two years are over recipients may apply for renewal. Imagine that after years of living in the shadows, you are given the chance at the American dream. You obtain a Social Security Number and a valid working permit, which allows you to work, get a driver's license, and go to school legally.

The election of President Trump brings forth a darker time to the DACA recipients as he vowed to end the program. At that point, these individuals who thought that they were nearing their goal of becoming normal, contributing members of society are halted. They are again going to be casted into the shadows of an underground America.
I know that reality very well because a year and a half ago I was a DACA recipient . I was lucky to find a solution to my immigration status, but nearly eight hundred thousand DACA recipients do not have the same luck as me. They will be facing deportation if something is not done immediately. How do we solve the problem that will tear families apart, and deport innocent individuals back to a country they barely know?
