The Three Methods Of Imperialism The three different methods of imperialism are the Big Stick Policy, Dollar Diplomacy, and Missionary Diplomacy. I will be explaining the differences of these three methods and decide witch one I think is best. First I will explain the Big Stick Policy. The Big Stick Policy is the idea of negotiating peacefully but also having some strength just incase things would go wrong. President Theodore Roosevelt was the man who invented this policy. His strategy was to “speak softly while carrying a big stick”. This means that he would come peacefully and speak nicely but if anything were to happen he would have his “big stick” witch refers to the military. President Theodore Roosevelt used this approach to Latin America and the Caribbean. The Big Stick Policy was successful at warding off the non American countries from intervening in the United States. Dollar Diplomacy was used by a country to ensure the financial stability of a region while protecting and extending U.S. commercial and financial interests. An example of dollar diplomacy was U.S. interference in Nicaragua, China, and Mexico in order to protect American interests. The pros of dollar diplomacy include lower administrative costs, a firm basis for a sounder financial sector, and lower interest rates. Dollar diplomacy caused immigration, low wages, a shift in land ownership, an increase in illegal births and population, and land ownership.
