In our world today, education is extremely important in order to be respected by other people and get a job. While material things are important for a person, our society considers education to be even more important. Just like the
The Islamic empire valued education to help their people to have good knowledge and be successful. In Document 2 it states “...Arab statisticians assure us the city boasted 37 libraries, numberless bookstores, 800 public schools...and a total population of 300,000.” This shows that they really valued education so people can be smart. Allah valued education so he told Muhammad to teach education and to value it as well. In Document 1 it says “The faithful… relied on mathematicians and astronomers to calculate the times of prayer and the direction of Mecca…” Everybody relies on the educated to help them to get where they want
In addition to that, there is a problem with the lack of necessary resource in a school. Whether this is seen in only a few schools or a lot, it is unacceptable and must be fixed. How can we expect these students to learn, work, and live on an equal playing field when they don’t even have books, while others have every resource you could ever want in a school? We have this idea of education being the panacea of world struggle, but is it really? When we have all these schools that are not fairly treated.
The school knowledge was based on facts and simple skills. Students was just given information without explanation or failed to make their own choices. The common theme was active and passive behaviors amongst students. The middle class school, the ethnic background and school
The article “The Myth of Helplessness” by Jay P. Greene, talks about education and how a child social status can affect them. When some people are facing problem they tend to make excuse for themselves. When people are making excuses that is just another way of saying that they are just giving up. When people are from a trough background they sometime have a hard time trying seeing a better future for themselves and believe that they will live the same way they are living now in the future. There are many schools that have problem.
In many countries living in extremely poor conditions, not only is basic health an issue but also the lack of education. Although it is a necessity, “more than 72 million children of primary education age are not in school and 759 million adults are illiterate” (Rights to Education 1). The deprivation of education should be taken serious if a change is wanted. People need to become aware of how important education is and the benefit that it has.
Although the author of the text is familiar with the American context, I believe all these arguments and strategies can be applied to different countries including Turkey. There are also different minority groups in Turkey like Kurds, Alevis etc. and they face serious problems in the education area similar to those in USA. Alongside the fact that Kurdish kids cannot get education on their own native language, they and the other minority groups become obligated to get education where there is a huge “Turkish identity” orientation like the Eurocentric orientation that is prevalent in USA. For example, Alevi children in Turkey have to attend the religion lessons that are mostly suitable with the beliefs of the majority and incompatible with their beliefs.
Achieving an accurate education system is not an easy function for any nation. The Smartest Kids in the World: And How They Got That Way by Amanda Ripley, is a wonderful book that focusing on the important of the education and how can the changing on the education system and schools reforms change the whole country for the best. It is crucial to the overall development of the individual and the society as a whole. When individuals do not have the option of getting an education due to the cost of the schools as well as the lack of schools itself. Schools, colleges, universities, Affiliation Boards, teacher, lecturers, professors, students etc all these entities form the system called an educations system.
