There are about one hundred and fifty (150) institutions of higher learning in Kenya. These institutions are in different categories and they include; universities, technical training institutions, teacher training colleges and middle level institutions. These institutions are public and privately owned all with the aim of providing higher education. The study focused on eight (8) institutions namely; Kenya Methodist University, Meru University of Science and Technology, Meru Technical Training Institute, Meru Teachers Training College, Nkabune Technical Training Institute, Nazarene University - Meru Campus, Mount Kenya University - Nkubu Campus and University of Nairobi Extra Mural Centre which are in Meru County.
With the increase of these institutions of higher learning in Kenya, the demand for human resources has also increased. Most of these institutions require heavy investment of money to get the right people to do the right job. It may be argued that if the right types of people are not identified, it will lead to huge losses to the employer in terms of money, time and effort.
