Many patients are extremely ill and/or immuno-compromised whilst they are in hospital, and as such are unable to fight off the effects of food poisoning. The caterer is responsible for ensuring that the food is safe and that food safety is not compromised. Anyone involved in handling food should receive Food Safety training. Checks are concentrated at certain points that are critical to the safety of the food. We provide specialized advice to the caterer about the vulnerability of specific patient groups. Foods such as probiotics drinks and yoghurts may be not be acceptable for immuno-depressive and other vulnerable patients.
