The North had railroad links that would transport their supplies, guns, ammunition, and uniforms from their factories to the frontlines. At the time the North had a population of 22 million people against the 9 million in the South (of whom almost half were slaves.) The North was more industrial and produced 94 percent of the USA’s pig iron and 97 percent of its firearms.
The Battle of Vicksburg was key to Union Victory because it took away Confederate control of the Mississippi River. Because the Confederacy controlled the mouth of the Mississippi River, it was impossible for the goods and agricultural products of the Ohio River Valley and the Upper Mississippi River Valley to get to market because the Midwestern U.S. still depended
It allowed the North to trade with the Midwest breadbasket, increasing economic opportunity and prosperity through the construction of railroads. Document H shows the railroad routes in the US in 1860. While the South had just a few railroad
Constitutional Convention The beginnings of the Convention (pre-constitution) began when Governor Edmund Randolph of Virginia presented and defended a plan for a new structure of government (called the "Virginia Plan") that had been chiefly drafted by fellow Virginia delegate, James Madison. The Virginia Plan called for a strong national government with both branches of the legislative branch apportioned by population. The plan gave the national government the power to legislate "in all cases in which the separate States are incompetent" and even gave a proposed national Council of Revision a veto power over state legislatures. Delegates from smaller states, and states less sympathetic to broad federal powers, opposed many of the provisions in the Virginia Plan.
Contrary to the South, the North came to rely increasingly on trade than threshing due to their rocky soil and potation climate. Industry and Commerce became the focus of the North as many factories sprung up all over the North. The North had the wholesomeness in each of the categories that were based on population, number of soldiers, number of factories, and miles of railroad tracks (Doc. B). While the North was worldly-wise to provide them with a steady economy based on mass-production, factory work, and sophisticated ways to help transport manufactured goods, the South's economy was based on threshing and an wide-stretching transmission labor force. They needed a never-ending supply of workers who were cheap, so African Americans were their first choice.
They also didn’t have many people like the south did, which focused on nothing but agriculture when The North focused on it’s industrial parts. this also gave the Union the edge to fight the Confederates with more men. mostly all of the southern men fought in war but they were outnumbered by the millions of Union troops in the war. The amount of workers and how better equipped with the industrial base the north could make more guns and steel to create machinery to help in the war like the ironclads used by each side, just the north would make them and the south bought them from other countries.
Virginia was the first in our nation, gave freedom, and set the ground rules for the United States. Massachusetts offered better social advancement, wealth, and life expectancy. Massachusetts used crops, families (especially women), and less disease were all factors to help Massachusetts
These states were essential for reasons being they controlled the Ohio and Mississippi rivers, which were the most important rivers during the war. Having the control of the rivers going to the Confederate side would not end well. Also, having to march through hostile border states on their way to invade
The reason for its creation was to house the first ever Southern furnace, just south of the Ohio. Also, it would use mineral coal to produce iron. The furnace would soon benefit the booming start of the little town Rockwood. William Moore wrote that, “Paternalism hindered the benevolent South.” The Northern carpetbaggers started from scratch.
Taking the city of Vicksburg was crucial because it was the last hold of the Confederacy on the Mississippi River. Cutting off the Confederacy, was a key focal point because it would cut off the Confederacy's supply and leave them with a less efficient way to trade with foreign places. By doing this, not only would they be cutting them off, but would be taking hold of the Mississippi, which would give the Union control of foreign trades, and would make transferring goods more direct and efficient. This would boost the economy for the United States, and for Vicksburg.
North Carolina ranks as the second largest hog farming state in the country. The largest amount of hog farms are located in the eastern part of North Carolina (Key Industries: Hog Farming). The North Carolina swine industry has grown into a key part of the growing economy for income as well as employment. The North Carolina swine industry has evolved from backyard production to industrialized corporations.
Franklin was close to becoming a state. Originally North Carolina claimed the land that went all the way west to
The South was offended by the North. The North had prominent economy. Northern states based their economy on trade and manufacture goods. Document 3 states, “ the North’s economy came to depend more on trade than on agriculture.” Document 5 also inform how cities in the North grew promptly, the railway system, and the shipping industry.
The North had many advantages. They beat the South in population they could draw soldiers from. The North had 22 million citizens where the South only had 5.5 million citizens. The North could transport supplies and people faster because of their roads, canals, and railroads. However the South disconnected from itself with barely any railroads and hard to move soldiers and goods from place to place.
So they became more focused on industry. Items like cotton, wool, pig iron, weapons, furniture, and other important items were being produced at a faster rate than the south. " By 1860, 90 percent of the nation 's manufacturing output came from the northern states” (Industry and Economy during the Civil War) The need for slaves in the north had reduced drastically. Slavery wasn 't needed in the North as much as it was in the south.
