Harte- Hanks Communications v. Connaughton, which took place in 1989, focused around libel laws as well redefining the actual malice standard. Six years prior to the case, Daniel Connaughton ran for Municipal Judge of Hamilton, Ohio, losing to the incumbent James Dolan. Connaughton was ultimately unsuccessful, losing to Dolan, who was supported by JournalNews, a local Ohio paper. It later was revealed that prior to the election, a member of Dolan’s staff resigned his position and was charged with perjury, by a jury.

If you think there should NEVER be limits on free speech, how do we justify allowing reckless speech that hurts others? I think we should have limits to freedom of speech. The limits we have in place right now are all that we need which is not being able to shout out something the cause chaos.

This notion certainly extends to the realm of business decisions as well--as such, early on in America’s history, there were not many regulations placed on businesses. However, over time, monopolies began to develop. These monopolies were considered to be bad for the market, because they discouraged competition, and as a result, led to over inflated prices on various goods and services.

Canada is a country that implements monopoly in their market structure. There are several monopolies in Canada such as electricity, water supplies, nuclear companies, and railways. The electricity supply in Canada is mainly under provincial jurisdiction.

It is of interest to business, because it gives opportunities to new businesses and entrepreneurs to enter the marketplace. Also, it helps to eliminate the monopoly companies by bringing new ideas and diversity of products. In addition, it helps small businesses against the big companies who goes against them.
The period from 1865 to 1900 was characterized by an astronomical boom in industry and manufacturing, economic growth for the rich, financial turmoil for the poor, and political corruption. As a result, the era has been named “The Gilded Age.” Just as something gilded is gold on the outside but worthless metal on the inside, these years seemed prosperous from an outside perspective, when in reality, the wealth gap was increasing at an alarming rate and big business had power over government officials. As a result of this, a lot of federal legislation was influenced by monopolies and often catered to the desires of businessmen. When was the start of the recent financial crises? Fitzpatrick IV and Thompson (2011) asserted that “many observers point to the summer of 2007 as the starting date for the financial crisis that would bring down most of the U.S. investment banking industry” (p. 1). However, there are many conditions that led up to the crisis, including housing policies and interest rates. Besides banks, government, homebuyers, and rating agencies had a role in the financial crisis, which led to the federal government actions to pass the Dodd-Frank Act to solve and avoid another crisis in the future.
The government also allowed this because many of these men have helped them with the debt they had and that is why monopolies were not really stopped by the government
Is Free Speech becoming limited in America? No. People are dying because of what they have done or said that is offensive to others. Some have lost jobs because of things they said.
Comcast and Time Warner Cable have recently struck a deal. The two cable companies are waiting for their merger application to be approved by the Federal Communications Commission, the government agency that regulates communications through the media. Both Comcast and Time Warner claim that this merger is more to the benefit of their consumers, increasing services provided by the companies. However, this “merger” is nothing more than a takeover by Comcast, the company trying to increase the monopoly it is becoming.
It as if certain groups of people with similar attributes have one piece of the puzzle and by diversity you can accumulate different pieces to see the whole picture. For example, if a group was developing a shampoo conditioner for women of color and only had white men in their team. Will they be able to truly understand or see what these women would want? H&M controversy could be a good example of what happens when you do not have enough
Diversity in the media will bring awareness to situations that are happening in communities that not everyone is accessible to that, in turn, can better those circumstances. Due to the lack of diversity in the media, it has put a strain in minority communities which Nam goes on to quote Dori J. Maynard, “Lacking these voices, the ability of the media to serve the public interest is itself compromised. ‘The news media is not only failing to serve the communities, but the country at large when they fail to reflect what’s going on in communities of color,” said the late Dori J. Maynard, former President of the Robert C.’(Nam par.2) and the causes the media to fail in not informing people everything that's going on but Instead picks and chooses what they
