Land of the free and home of the brave. America is a country that is known for its freedom worldwide. Many abandoned their own country in order to try and live a perfect life in America, where they will not be discriminated against no matter what nationality, sex or religion an individual is. America was not always this promising to minorities mid 1800’s. America had huge faults such as slavery which later was one of the reasons the north and south separated and went to war with each other.
America can be described in many different ways, but America in definition is a land mass occupied by a mixture of different ethnicities who all believe in similar ideals such as living in a land enriched with opportunities where you a free from persecution and able to live out your beliefs. “There are things you can 't back down on, things you gotta take a stand on. But it 's up to you to decide what them things are. You have to demand respect in this world, ain 't nobody just gonna hand it to you. How you carry yourself, what you stand for--that 's how you gain respect. But, little one, ain 't nobody 's respect worth more than your own,” (Taylor, 134).
To Americans, America is a normal, basic country. America is an argumentative and feeling country with debates around every corner; yet somehow it retains a respectable air for a majority of the time. However, to people who live outside of America, the idea of what America is or could be differs entirely.
What it means to be an American is that you have the freedom to vote freedom of speech. You have the liberty to be what you want in America no one chooses for you. Also have the liberty to work wherever you want not be someone 's slave. Being American means you don 't have to hide your religion, the color of your skin or your sex. You have the ability to speak what you want.
In his book, Rights of Man, pamphleteer Thomas Paine explains that, in his eyes, America is nearly the perfect society. He states that even though there are so many “people from different nations, accustomed to different forms and habitats of government, speaking different languages, and more different in their modes of worship”, America manages to stay cordially united. Today, the fact that America is made up of people from all over the world is still holds true, but it is nowhere near flawless. Violence in America has gone up drastically in the past few years, there is a huge difference between the upper and lower class, and different types of people are discriminated against. In 1791, when Paine wrote his book, he claimed that the government

America is the place that seems to give opportunities and equal changes to all. They have more freedom than others (but not total freedom). America is a united people working together. I believe America is a place where all people have a chance to succeed in life. I also believe that in America people have the freedom to stand up for their beliefs and fight for them.
I believe that America is a bad country. America is not a good country because it has a large amount of violence, lack of opportunities, and so much discrimination. Indeed, America is a bad country because it has a large amount of violence. Not a day goes by that I don’t hear about someone who got murdered.
Modern honor in America is something that we give through acknowledgment. This is done through awards and medals. Some of the medal that is given out is the medal of honor and the Nobel peace prize, however some people are honored to an amount that they do not deserve it. Honor can be defined in many different ways.
Equality in America America and its people have worked hard to create a home in which everyone is treated, and feels equal. We’ve fought wars, held protests, and lost many lives in situations where we were fighting for fair treatment. After all of these sacrifices, it's safe to say that Americans have the right to love, and cherish the equality that their home presents them with, but to an extent. Equality in society, government, and basic human interactions should always be kept, and held with great importance. However, we also need to keep in mind that we are not the same people.
When a person hears or sees the word America, what do they think? America is a country that almost everyone in the world knows about because there are certain words and phrases that can be used to describe it. Some common terms are sports, equality, the melting pot, powerful, freedom, hard working, and some more. All of these words make up what is known as the American Identity. This American Identity has been built up over time by people’s actions and thoughts.
Respect, everybody wants it, but few actually get it. True respect is not something that you can impose or ask from others; it is something that others gives to you from their own will and it is not that easy to get.
