Why is William Shakespeare Popular?

There is no doubt that William Shakespeare is one of the most successful and well-known writer in history. He had written 37 plays, 154 sonnets, a few verses and 2 long narrative poems in total. According to Wikipedia, Shakespeare is the best-selling fiction author of all times. Despite most of his works were written in the Elizabethan Age, which was in the 16th century, still they remain popular, and are being translated to every living language. His plays are made into adapted movies such as The Lion King from Hamlet (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Films_based_on_Hamlet) and Ran from King Lear (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Films_based_on_King_Lear). Some of the most famous pieces such as King Lear and Macbeth are even included in the exam syllabus of secondary schools and universities. Even though we are not in the Arts scheme but a Medicine student, we are still taught with some of his sonnets and plays. Although the works are first published more than four hundred years ago, they are still influencing the literature and movies nowadays. What makes William Shakespeare so exceptional and outstanding?

William Shakespeare is definitely talented in writing, especially in the field of poetry. He invented a new type of sonnet known as the Shakespeare 's Sonnets with a rhyme scheme of “abab cdcd efef gg”. He has written hundreds of beautiful sonnets, each in a beautiful structure and uses words that can cause association
