Technology was improving, with the telegraph, the railroad, and advances in gun manufacturing. There were advances in agriculture, such as John Deere’s new steel tipped plow. They also started building houses with bricks. Furniture was now being mass produced and was cheaper. Everything seemed to be improving, but their health was not improving.
In the post-Civil War United States, the South was in shambles. During the period of Reconstruction, Southern states had to be readmitted to the Union. The period from 1870 to 1900 is known as the Gilded Age, and it helped improve the unity of the country. Transcontinental railroads were being built and big corporations were being formed. The American people benefited from these changes because goods were easily available.
Technology can be innovations and inventions that help to accomplish tasks easier. Some examples of technology are agricultural tools, modern computers, electric compartments, etc. In earlier civilizations, the invention of technology itself was a massive part in growing the population and preserving business ordeals like trade. The Han dynasty and the Roman empire both believed technology was essential to their civilizations, but Han China had a positive outlook on labor and its benefits compared to a lesser enthusiasm towards it in Rome. Both the Romans and the Hans admired technology and the people that created it.
Firstly, the Golden Ages contributed many aspects that greatly influenced future times. According to an excerpt from Gray C. Boyce [Document 6], even through the darkest of times Europe seemed to be always advancing and contributing innovative ideas. As trade increased, so did the ideas that generated stronger civilizations throughout Europe. Therefore, this document supports the Golden Age because it states that this period of time “later transmitted to later ages great riches”, this means that the achievements made later influenced future societies in a successful way. Due to these advancements, Europe had developed an edge upon other civilizations.
Technology used in ancient civilizations not only contributed to the well being of people in that era but also the well being of the people of today. Achievements of the past have paved the way for achievements currently. The Code of Hammurabi created a model legal system for other countries to base their legal systems on. By creating a written language the Chinese improved communication and promoted unity. Sumerian accomplishments influenced weaponry/tools, writing and helped develop architecture.
After the classical period the Islamic civilization showed an advancement in a variety of different aspects of their culture. They adopted a lot of it from earlier civilizations but had had a massive contribution on their part. The effect of this is that the Muslim culture and intellectual ideas were very long lasting. The achievements of the Islamic empires contributed to the development of their Golden Age.
This economic growth and wealth collapsed societies and motivated supporters of the faith. The economic growth throughout the golden age was magnificent, drawing people from around the world to this new, prosperous
The Oxford English Dictionary defines “civilize” as “To bring…to a stage of social development considered to be more advanced, esp. by bringing to conformity with the social norms of a developed society.” The transition from going from living in the wild to civilization is very complex as we have seen in The Epic of Gilgamesh translated by Benjamin R. Foster. Enkidu learns to be more civilized through Shamhats seduction, role reversal, and his encounter with Gilgamesh, but in the end he regrets even becoming civilized. Was it worth it to become civilized just to die in the end?

Ancient Mali was one of the greatest kingdoms in early Africa. It had not been considered much by others, but gold had given it the recognition and admiration it was entitled to. It grew into distinction for its gold and contact with other civilizations allowed for a reputation to blossom. Without the gold and gold trade, Mali might never have had the resources to rise into a magnificent and lasting empire. It developed its own unique culture, remained strong and fierce in times of turmoil, and had some of the strongest and most renowned leaders recognized in ancient Africa.
The “golden age” of Greece or the “Age of Pericles” was the main cause of western civilization. That age began with defeat of a Persian army and ended with an outrageous and long war between Athens and Sparta. However, there was much progress in many fields including government, art, philosophy, drama and literature during that period of time. Some of the most familiar Greek names lived in that prosperous era. Some classical scholars referred to that time as the Greek miracle.
The most notable improvements were in technology. Most of this technological advances were in transportation, like subways or cars, but the best techological improvement was the abillity to build higher buildings and tenements. With this improvement camed the dumbbell tenements which improved the way of living of tenements with more ventilation, light and space, but life in the tentment was still dangerous. The tentment changed more when Jacb Riis published pictures of the lifestock of poor people. People started to realise how bad that life stack was and they decided to help.
Age of exploration changed the world over time and When the New Age was discovered, many new things introduced to the Europeans like new races of people, new cultures and religions, new animals and plant, everything were new. Many people didn’t know how to use the new things that have happened. European and Arab designs the first ships that could leave the easy way passive Mediterranean safely on the open Atlantic. Age of Exploration had many effects, People said that it had Positive and Negative Effects to them, The main Negative effects were 1) Culture being destroyed, by destroying and eliminate the rich cultures and civilizations. 2) Spread of disease, like smallpox, black spots,etc.
The agricultural technology that was invented during the medieval ages resulted in social and economic developments which affected the lives of those living in that period. The new machinery allowed the townspeople to grow a surplus of food and in result learn new specialties and trades. “When these people could produce a surplus, they were freed to do other things, which provided the basis for towns, cities, and civilization”( flowofhistory.com). Civilian life was made more comfortable because of the advancements that were made through the ages.
