Through December 1777 to June 1778, George Washington led the Continental Army through winter camp. The Continental Army was an army of Patriot soldiers who fought against Britain. The Patriots hated Britain for their taxes and laws. So they went off to war. There was just one problem, they did not know how bad the conditions were going to be.

He competed at the highest level in two different sports, by not just playing them, but by performing at the highest level in both sports. He competed in the All Star Game for baseball and hit leadoff, and he played in the National Football Leagues Pro Bowl. There are so many stories about Bo Jackson that will make a person question if the things he can do are even humanly possible.
NDSU graduate, college athlete, President of a business, Owner of a business, philanthropist, Bison Super fan, Dave Jones is a man of many titles but one he holds the closest to is a NDSU Bison. Dave Jones started his college career at NDSU in 1988 where he started his degree in Construction Management and the rest was history. He came to North Dakota State University as a member of the track team where he participated in almost all field events. This is where he garnered his passion and love for NDSU and NDSU sports. To this day he makes considerable donations to the University specifically for the sports program.

Dr. Carter G. Woodson, born in New Canton, Virginia, is one of the first African-Americans to receive a doctorate from Harvard University. His worked centered on exploring the depths of African American history. As a published historian and founder of the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History (later the Association for the Study of Afro-American Life and History), Woodson lobbied and encouraged schools to participate in programs that cultivated the study of African American history. The programs began in February 1926 as Negro History Week. He selected February to honor the birth months of abolitionist Frederick Douglas and President Abraham Lincoln.
Jackie Robinson not only made impacts on the field that were monumental, but he made impacts off the field that were equally as important. Jackie helped presidents get elected, get kids off the streets and into the most prestigious schools there is, and most importantly he broke the black color barrier in baseball. Jackie Robinson is one of the most influential people to ever live, he did things that people would dream about, he stood up for what he believed. To begin, Jackie’s biggest accomplishment was breaking the black color barrier on baseball, “ Jackie Robinson broke through the color barrier that kept blacks out of the Major League Baseball [MLB].
For being the first African American to play in the majors, he got his number retired throughout baseball. Another well know African American baseball player was Satchel Paige. He was 2nd to play in the American League. He became the first African American to pitch in the World Series and in the All-Star game.
Arguably one of the very best is Louis Armstrong. Known to be well versed in not only trumpet but also vocals and even composition. Louis Armstrong inspired many people across a wide range. He was so actively involved in everything going on around him. He was one of the only African American musicians who spoke up against political issues, he publically talked about the wrongness of school segregation (Harris).
I picked to write about Alvin Ailey because I feel like this is the decade and generation that his legacy died in because when it comes to dance no one thinks of Ailey as the founding father his dancing is a lost art.. Alvin Ailey was an amazing dancer and choreographer with his own unique dance style. His talent was referenced in Fresh Prince of Bel Air and a different world his style is what makes him stand out from other choreographers. Alvin Ailey was not born with his name in lights he had a rough beginning. Born in Rogers, Texas on January 5th 1931 as Alvin Ailey Jr.
James Baldwin’s “Sonny’s Blues” uses Sonny as an antagonist character to the protagonist, his eldest brother. While Sonny and his eldest brother both are the center of the stories content, Baldwin uses Sonny to represent a challenge to the narrator of the story. Through the rekindling of a brother’s relationships, Baldwin is able to depict Sonny's motivations and aspirations through his flaws, and the way in which his flaws affected his life. Sonny’s flaws ultimately shape Sonny’s character, his reserved feelings and silent demeanor isolate him from the world, but at the same time contribute to his aspirations and motivations by music.

The book takes place in the drive-through town of Laramie, Wyoming in 1998. The members of the Tectonic Theater Project investigate and conduct over two hundred interviews in order to get more first-hand information about the murder. The author uses literary elements to discuss political and social issues when interviewing Jedadiah Schultz, Marge Murray, and when someone sent an email to Philip Dubois, the President of the University of Wyoming. Social issues are first discussed when interviewing Jedadiah Schultz, a 19-year-old university student.
Born on September 12, 1964, in Pennsylvania, Chip grew up to be an associate art director at the New York publishing house. At first he was hired at the publishing house as a junior assistant in 1986. He would also freelance for various firms including Farrar Straus and Giroux, Amazon and HarperCollins. Chip Kidd was a well known book cover designer, designing nearly 1,000 book covers. Before he started designing book covers Chip was a graphic design major at Pennsylvania State University.
