Right before Northanger Abbey is published; in 1815 Napoleon is defeated in Waterloo. The book than gets published in 1818.

The climax of the story is when Catherine gets kicked out of Northanger Abbey by General Tilney (Henry and Eleanor Tilney Father).Catherine gets kicked out of Northanger Abbey because when Mr. Tilney goes on a business trip he finds out that the Allen’s and Thorpe’s have no money. Catherine thinks she has to leave because of a presumption she made about Henrys father and she thought Henry told his dad what she said. Henry comes to Catherine’s home and explains everything to her and tells her that he’s not mad at her.
9. Catherine returns home upset to her home in Fullerton. She waits very sadly until Henry arrives and explains that he loves her very much and asks for her hand in marriage. As for Isabella she has lost both James and Fredrick for the cheating and dishonesty. General Tilney leaves angry and doesn’t give consent for marriage for Catherine and Henry.

The primary theme is the worst crimes are the crimes of the heart. I feel like this theme relates to everyone in the world. It’s one thing to commit a crime but to mess with people’s emotions and toy around with people’s hearts scar people emotionally.
13. The novel as a whole was really well written. The story gives the reader a lot of emotions to deal with such as hate, love, betrayal, sadness and greed. The author’s purpose was to show how money can tear people and families apart very easily. The book shows how easy people can be disposed for money. Readers about teens to middle age adults could read this story and relate to the characters very clearly.

In an article from The Chicago Tribute, “A musical 'Northanger Abbey' captures Austen's charm” by Chris Jones, makes me feel very pleased about how Jane Austen’s work is perceived as great literary work. The reporter does mention that Catherine is a representation of women’s hopes and dreams. Which I would disagree with, I think Catherine represents the innocence of young adult girls in the 1800s. In the second article from The New York Times, It Was a Dark and Stormy Night Val McDermid’s ‘Northanger Abbey’ by JO Baker, shows that Catherine’s reading of gothic novels gives her an unrealistic perspective on her current reality. I was surprised to see the reporters view on Catherine portrayed as an immature girl. I would say that in the story she does let her whimsical and gothic imagination get the best of her and
