Industrialization was a time in which the lives of Americans were changing drastically. It was an era, that help shape America to the form that it is today. During the Industrialization, many may argue that it was a time where our people and land was treated horrible. But, this time period led us to greater and farther things that we didn’t know was possible. This Revolution was a step towards a dramatic and positive effect to America. Production and inventions were flying from left to right throughout this time. The railroad system became such a huge benefit to America, that the amount of railroad tracks was enormous. Inventions such as the sewing machine, telephone, and the light bulb helped with everyday lives and social interactions. Such as the telephone, help others to communicate with each other much more quickly instead of sending mail which can take weeks or traveling long distances to say hello. Also, these inventions that were being created help create new factory jobs for thousands of people. For instances, the sewing machine. “I have a very good boarding place, have enough to eat… The girls are all kind and obliging… I think that the factory is the best place for me and if any girl wants employment, I advise them to come to Lowell.” (Document 1) This excerpt demonstrates that she enjoys working and having a place to work. During this time, women felt independence while working. They never really had opportunities to work actual jobs, since they did mostly household chores/jobs. Factories gave them opportunities to help their families and themselves. The women in this excerpt even encouraged other girls to join the workplace. Factories also helped meet consumer demands. Sometimes the change is good other times it’s bad. Or there’s another possibly the the change can be good and bad. The Industrial Revolution is sort of like that. Many people view it as such a positive effect, while others not so much. It’s always going to be a controversy, but to me it seems as though it had a huge positive effect for our society. The United States became an opportunity to people, it gave them the one thing every looks for, hope. It gave us hope to do something with ourselves. That can be creating an invention to save lives, or finally having a job. “This success did not come without a price, however, industrial growth brought with it a host of environmental pollution problems.” (Document 3) Although, horrible labor, living conditions, and pollution were some of the negative consequences we had to deal with, those problems were letter resolve in the future. Those were just a few items we had to dealt with in the past, but our inventions, railroads, and urbanization continues to this day. Those positive attributes made our country how it is today.
