The Industrial Revolution, which occurred between around 1760 and 1820-1840, was a period of transition from hand production methods to machines, new chemical manufacturing and iron production processes, and the use of water and steam power. It led to unprecedented population growth and a rise in average income and population[2]. The growth of industries and factories in Great Britain led to urbanization, overcrowding, and poor living conditions in industrial towns[7]. In the short term, the poor living conditions in industrial towns led to the spread of diseases and illnesses[8]. However, the British government passed several laws and regulations aimed at improving the lives of people living in industrial towns.
As the ink flowed onto the paper through 56 determined signers, The Declaration of Independence was our first hope into the future. The end of British tyranny was upon us. The People had hoped to get a voice in our government as well as support the idea of civil disobedience; which resulted in the Bill of Rights. We had hopes for a better future in where we thrived and built our foundation on democracy - and more importantly, to be America. Becoming a new country influences domestic industry.
During the Progressive Era, there were many issues surrounding labor, the food industry,and trusts. The Labor Union began to protest for better working conditions and hours, along with child labor laws. The Federal Government and the reformers had to act, and bring about reform through the nation. But the real question is whether or not they were effective in doing so. One of the main issues of the working industry that came to light was the terrible state of the meat packing industry.
Other than physical intervention via helping end labor union strikes, the government also affected businesses and the economy through law. When laws were passed in an attempt to manage the large corporations that controlled entire industries, said laws were often spun in favor of the businesses instead. One example was the Sherman Antitrust Act. Intended to control and regulate trusts, trusts being deals made between two parties that allowed benefactors to gain large sums of money, the Sherman Antitrust Act was instead interpreted in law to control labor unions. The logic used was “that the labor unions were a trust of labor” (Laissez).
In a time after the Civil War, when a transcontinental railroad was created connecting the East and West, people began to move and settle across the country, creating new urban cities and manufacturing hubs. It was because of the railroad that the Second Industrial Revolution and the Gilded Age took place which rapidly increased the manufacturing of products through the new machines in factories and the spread of ideas by the telegraph and railroad. It was in this context that many farmers, as well, began to move West and experience a loss in the prices of their crops. It is also in this context that many workers were forced to work long, laborious hours with little pay. Farmers responded to industrialization in the Gilded Age by forming organizations such as the Granger movement and the Farmers Alliance as well as creating the Populist Party.
The course material for this class was an eye-opener for me. I learned the history taught in classrooms is different from the true history. I wasn’t aware that authors and publishers of history textbooks have altered the information to make it appealing to their target audience (Loewen Ch. 1). I have always believed that the information in history textbooks were be true. Target audiences would purchase history texts if they are satisfied with how the text portrays the nation as a whole.
Industry. The sky scraping smokestacks and the large compounds. It is what made the modern world what it is today and helps us thrive. The United States was made from industry and industry is what has helped propel it into the world power that it is. Envision a map of the U.S and then look to the east and narrow it down on North Carolina until you find Caldwell County.
The industrial growth had began in the united states in the early 1800s and continued through the civil war, after the civil war american industry changed dramatically. Machines had replaced hand labour, inventors developed new products that the public wanted, and bankers supplied large amounts of money that business leaders needed to expand their operations. A new nationwide network of railways distributed goods far and wide. Industrialization had a positive impact/effect. industrialization led to urbanization, urbanization was the movement of people in the city and city building.
Farmers and Industrial Workers in the Gilded Age In a time when industrialization was booming, immigrants were racing towards the “American Dream”, and cities were growing towards the sky, the United States was thriving. As a country, the United States went from rural, to mostly urban, which made America “the world’s largest industrial power” as stated by John Green. Since the U.S. had become mostly urban, this left the very few rural workers (farmers), and even some of the industrial workers unhappy. During the late 1800s the differences between the wealthy industrialists and the average American worker were enormous. While successful businessman like Andrew Carnegie made millions, some factory workers made as little as six dollars a week. Poor families were living in filthy, overcrowded tenements and struggled to make a living because of unfair wages. This was a major problem in the late 1800’s and it is illustrated well by the political cartoon “The Protectors of Our Industries” by Bernhard Gillam.

Although during the Progressive era, progressives sought to push the nation into economic advancement, it was actually President Roosevelt’s New Deal, that restored public confidence and created government programs that led to relief for millions of Americans after Progressivism drove the country into turmoil. The new society established during the progressive era lacked stability, cultivated a sense of despair, high unemployment rates, shrunk and ultimately crashed the economic system. Paragraph 1: Industrialization really took of in the United States during the late 1800s and the early 1900s. Before then, America 's population had mostly lived out in the farms and ranches of the country, but that was about to change when more and more people started to move to the cities for work. Most of the people that moved, found themselves in factory jobs for the steel industry or alike, or working for the railroads. Companies could really thrive, as the United States government, adopted a policy of Laissez Faire. This is also about the time that immigration really kicked up, more and more immigrants were showing at Ellis Island, looking for a new start.
Before the advancement of automated machinery, basic production was often done manually, consuming more time and amounting to minimum productivity. The second Industrial Revolution prove to be a key factor in the history of the United States of America and entire world in the 1920’s. The second wave of industrial revolution change people’s lives and open more doors for advancement in the workforce. It did in a way because “Much of the newer, automatic machinery could be operated by unskilled and semiskilled workers, and it boosted the overall efficiency of American industry. The machine industry itself, particularly the manufacture of electrical machinery, led in productivity gains, enjoying one of the fastest rates of expansion.
News reporter Welcome back to Everyday news. In yesterday's segment, it was said that an archaeologist found information about the industrial revolution and its impact within the environment. Today, this special guest, will be answering some questions about today's topic. To start off, I will be defining the meaning of the industrial revolution.
Capitalism, is arguably, one of the most profit-driven, productive economic systems in the world. This economic system, which has now spread across most parts of the globe, originally developed in Britain. This then leads to the question of what factors facilitated the growth of industrial capitalism in Britain, or in Western Europe, as opposed to other parts of the Old World. Janet Abu-Lughod, in her work titled “Before European Hegemony” criticises the notion that there was something inherent in the West that favoured its growth and eventual hegemony of the world economy. Additionally, there was nothing inherent about the rest of the Old World that prevented it from developing industrial capitalism.
