This is a study on the influence of Tamil language in English speech production among SJK (T) Raub students. Language is a method of communicating ideas, thoughts and desire. English acts as a second language. English is well known as an International, global and an Universal language. Without English it is very difficult for us to manage in this ultra-modern world. When we begin to speak in second language like English, we initially use sounds from our mother tongue. Therefore, everyone has mother tongue influence to begin with. A mother tongue is a language in which a person has grown up speaking since small age. It is also known as the first language (L1). Second language is the language acquired by a person after acquiring his or her native language which is also known as the mother tongue. The function and influences of mother tongue or first language (L1) on second language (L2) learning has always been a serious issue in many research studies. This paper is an attempt to portray the influence of Tamil language in English speech production among SJK (T) Raub students. The school that I am going to conduct my research is at SJK (T) Raub. It is a national-type school located in Jalan Tengku Abdul Samad, 2 kilometres away from Raub town. This school consist of approximately 500 students from pre-school to Primary Six. The students and teachers here consist of all races. The majority of students who are studying here are Tamil speaking Indians. The subject of my
