McCandless and America In August 1992 a the body of Christopher Johnson McCandless was found in a bus in Alaska by two moose hunters. His story was traced back and written. McCandless left his friends, family, and life behind him to survive the Alaskan wild alone. Chris McCandless found the American dream by realising he should have shared his happiness with the ones that he loved.
America is arguably the greatest country in existence, it’s built on values of freedom and abundance of opportunities for its citizens. In Mr Schwartz’s view, the young “rude,” uncivil, and irresponsible have taken advantage of the freedom and created entropy in today’s society. I strongly disagree with Mr. Schwartz theories concerning the “rudeness” of American civility. Furthermore, Mr. Schwartz makes numerous generalizations, contradicts himself on countless remarks, and uses no data or evidence besides anecdotal evidence to support many of his claims. I disagree with Mr.schwartz's essay for several reasons.
Francis had to experience many different things when moving to America. Any person from another country that speaks a different language would have trouble in a new place. I am going to tell you about the changes you have to make to come in a different placed. The hardest thing to get used to is the language; everything is more difficult when you don’t know the language. Even to get a job is harder you might not know what your boss is asking and get fired.
Why America? Is it because we give opportunities or is it because we let the people start all over with their lives? In 1776 when the United States was established and we declared independence from Britain, we got many rights and freedoms. Those rights and freedoms are still very important today to making Americans who they are and what they believe. To be an American to me is not about your ethnicity, religion, or language you speak.
The land of the free and the home of the brave, America is the dream for people everywhere. A place to make a name for yourself, where the unthinkable is achievable. Immigrants from all over the world travel days, weeks, and months to be greeted by Lady Liberty and create a better life for themselves. In particular, immigrants from Europe save every penny they have to afford the trip to America. They leave their family, friends, and the comfort of their home to explore the unknown and diversity of America.
In the current political environment, the question “What does it mean to be an American” is one that really caused me to think and reflect deeply. And while some are vowing to “Make America Great Again”, I think there are already a number of things that already make America great and make me proud to be an American. Early on, our founding fathers suggested through the Constitution that at its core, what it meant to be American was simply “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”
