America is arguably the greatest country in existence, it’s built on values of freedom and abundance of opportunities for its citizens. In Mr Schwartz’s view, the young “rude,” uncivil, and irresponsible have taken advantage of the freedom and created entropy in today’s society. I strongly disagree with Mr. Schwartz theories concerning the “rudeness” of American civility. Furthermore, Mr. Schwartz makes numerous generalizations, contradicts himself on countless remarks, and uses no data or evidence besides anecdotal evidence to support many of his claims. I disagree with Mr.schwartz's essay for several reasons. Mr. Schwartz feeds his audience numerous broad generalizations, or sweeping statements. The article “ American Jerks,” contains many false, illogical assertions that leaves the readers such as myself rather confused. First off, the author starts off the essay in the most obnoxious way possible by using parallelism to falsely generalize America as a nation, then the statement is followed by a hideous attempt at sarcasm by “apologizing” to Mr.Dickens “(or not, screw him).” Mr.Todd Schwartz explains that society today “ have never been more concerned about the feelings of minority groups, the disabled, and the disadvantaged. A lot of the actions that people do can easily be justified. For example, he complains that “stereos played at volumes easily heard on Jupiter”(Schwartz, Paragraph7), people can utterly relate to that problem. Unfortunately, Mr. Schwartz believes it’s an American crisis and immediate attention is needed for this issue. Also his so called theories are beyond my comprehension, It is just so hard to grasp such sophisticated theories such as “ America is in the same position as Rome found itself in about 420 CE, meaning that we’ve reached the peak of our civilization”(Schwartz Paragraph 10). America is nowhere near the peak of civilization, if anything we have just started civilizations in this era and will continue to change as technology changes. Therefore, comparing Rome and America is just ridiculous, apples and
