Lets get to know THE BELUGA WHALE
Who am i?
I am a whale that is 13-20 feet tall. I am dark grey in appearance when i am born. Overtime, as i get older, i become lighter and lighter until i eventually become fully white. This is why i am also known as The White whale. I live for about 35-50 years on average. (‘Basic facts about beluga whales’, 2014), (Society, n.d.)
Where can you find me? I am a fully arctic/subarctic marine creature, which means that i am always in low temperature waters such as 0 degrees celsius. You can find me in the arctic ocean and seas near it such as the Sea of Okhotsk, the Bering Sea, the Gulf of Alaska, the Beaufort Sea, Baffin Bay, Hudson Bay, and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. How can i help these whales?
There is a foundation called world-wildlife which has been doing a magnificent job of trying to come to aid of this situation. They have been doing things such as: trying to change shipping guidelines in the arctic so that they wouldn’t harm marine life. they have a project on trying to decrease the noise pollution that goes underwater. trying to improve the prevention of oil spills. pushing the international whaling commission to do a better job at preventing these threatening events
Beluga whales, just like any other whales or organism in the world, have a part of the food chain. These whales are at the top of the food chain, which leads to the fact that they will affect the health of all the other marine organisms and their environment. (‘Beluga | whales |Species | WWF’, n.d.)
We need to come to the aid of beluga whales before it’s too late. If you were wondering how you could help, there are many different organizations which you could support in order for the extraordinary white whales to survive!
