Henry Cuellar is one of thirty six house representatives for Texas. Mr. Cuellar represented the 28th district for Texas, which makes a strange elongated shape. I chose to look at my House of representative for my area because i thought i might feel a connection with someone who grew up near my location who understands the problems and issues of living in a town in Texas. I live in Wilson County which borders Bexar County. Upon seeing my district line, I find it interesting how the districts were chosen. My house barely makes the Wilson County line, and by a simple line, I am being represented by a man who deals with problems from Floresville to even further south than Laredo. After being exposed to Washington first hand, Cuellar brought his experience back to Texas. He enrolled in University of Texas at Austin and received his Juris Doctor degree in 1981. Shortly after, he opened up his own law firm and in 1983 became a licensed customs broker. While his Law firm was being established, he enrolled himself in the Texas Agricultural and Mechanical University where he graduated with a masters in International trade in 1982. In 1984, Cuellar began teaching at the Laredo Community college and was the Adjunct Professor for International Commercial Law until 1986. In 1987, Cuellar becomes a representative for the Texas State House of Representatives and stays in office until 2001. During this time, serves as the Texas delegate for the National Democratic Convention in 1992 as well as enrolls himself in the University of Texas at Austin where he received his PhD in Government in 1998 . He serves for Texas until he was appointed secretary of state for Texas in 2001. It is in 2005 that Cuellar is elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred Ninth congress and serves for the next five terms in office where he still serves. He will be up for reelection in
