Wrestling itself can be a dangerous sport to compete in. Although the act of wrestling isn’t the most dangerous part of the sport in general. Wrestling can be extremely stressful since a simple mistake can allow a novice wrestler to beat an All-American (someone who makes it to the final 8 in the national wrestling tournament). Sports have been an important part of my life, and wrestling is no different than the rest. Stress can be a scary thing to think about when talking about sports, and the stress it puts on people can be quite noticeable. Whether it be mixed martial arts or just plain old wrestling, weight is a deciding factor on who you wrestle. Wrestlers need a balanced diet to compete at their best ability. Fats and oils should be avoided in your diet if all possible. Other than those two, you’ll want to keep all the other food groups in your diet. Carbohydrates should be in most of your foods since they give your body the energy it needs for the amount of exercise you do every day. As my mom used to say “Eat your fruit and vegetables”, fruits and vegetables are more essentials in your diet. They are great sources of vitamins and minerals. Vitamins and minerals are a necessity in keeping your body healthy through all this. The last two groups are dairy and meats. Both are good for most diets, but in the area of cutting weight, they should be eaten at a minimum. Keep dairy and meats in your diets, just at lower amounts. When they are consumed, make sure to get low-fat and fat-free dairy products and lean meats. Lean meats are no different than regular meats, other than the fact that lean meats have little to no fat in them. Now that you know about the food groups, it’s time to talk about pure calories. A calorie is a unit of energy that the body uses. A calorie has two different areas of uses, one being chemistry, and the other being nutrients. We’ll be talking about nutrition, so obviously it’s that one. The average calorie intake of a man is 2640 calories a day. A male should have a daily intake of around 1800- 2000 calories a day to lose weight. Healthy weight loss consists of losing no more than 2-3 pounds a week. Losing more than that a week can cause the loss of muscle tone. Water weight is a big factor in your weight, it is just pure weight coming from drinking water during the day. Because of water weight, your weight will fluctuate throughout the day, so it is good to weigh yourself a couple times a day. Make sure to watch your calorie intake, remember not to eat too much, but to eat enough
