For this assignment I decided to create my own country, The Republic of Christa. Even though it’s called the Republic of Christa the government is democratic. The population of this republic is around one million. It is located in the Caribbean’s so due to the climate and the environment their main source of income is trading cotton while they also export vegetables, fruits, sugar cane, and machinery equipment to different countries. They are the top country when it comes to producing cotton. Due to internal pressure from its citizens and external pressure from World War II and also the refusal of the U.N. trading with any countries that practiced or supported communism; they turned to democracy and capitalism hoping that the future would be more promising then what was present at the time. Government officials who lead Christa are voted in by the people, but they are heavily influence by the cotton companies who want to have access to the republic’s bank so they can produce the best quality. The interesting thing is that no one really seems to be bothered by these influences because they feel like it is harmless and these officials and companies put the countries’ interests over their own interests. Christa also provided opportunities to study abroad as well. They like to send students and/or researchers to the United States, Japan, Europe, and other major countries to study politics, business and many other things. By promising more materials to these countries they are able to get sponsors to fund these programs. Since programs like these are common in Christa that means that there are plenty of professional opportunities. This isn’t to say that there isn’t unemployment though. Some areas of Christa are mainly used for farmland and if you aren’t able to produce some cotton or vegetables you are going to find yourself in poverty. There is welfare in place for these families, but it is not as good as other welfare policies that other countries seem to have. Jobs in Christa can range from nurses to school teachers. Most of the professional opportunities can be found in Christa’s capital Lacey. This is where majority of the businesses and other companies operate. Government plays a huge role when it comes to the economic sector. One of the most important roles that the government plays is the regulation of taxes on cotton, machinery, and other exports. This
