Have you ever heard about Kwanzaa? More importantly, are you interested in learning about a famous African celebration? To explain, Kwanzaa is an African American holiday that is celebrated from December 26th to January 1st. Although Kwanzaa is an African American holiday, the celebration itself transmits a national message that explains to others of what it means to be a human through cultural practice. To further elaborate, Kwanzaa came from the phrase “matunda ya kwanza” which means “first fruits” in the language of Swahili.
Brittney Smith a 17 year old girl who goes to Maplewood High School where she is an honor roll student, a cheerleader, and is the student body president for the Junior classmen. She enjoys spending time with her family, hanging out with her friends, and she make sures that she makes the right decisions for the school. Brittney usually gets along with everyone in the school even the unpopular kids, but there is this one person she doesn’t like or can’t stand to be around. His name is Andre Jones, Andre is the captain of the basketball team and star player. Even though Brittney is around Andre during basketball games, she still refuses to talk to him or go near him.
D-day started on june 6 in 1944 and that was the day the invasion started for fighting the Germans for the Jews sake and there freedom and it represented the battle of Normandy. The day was famous because it was the day the real war started happening and people trying to free the Jews from Hitler’s power over everyone and everything. The “D” in D-Day is that it stands for “designated day.”
Halloween On October 31 every year we celebrate a holiday known as Halloween. Celebrating consists of traditional activities such as: trick-or-treating, haunted houses, dressing up as your favorite character, carving jack-o-lanterns. There’s tons of fun stuff to do on Halloween, but there’s tons of history behind it as well. For starters, did you know that in Ohio, Massachusetts, and Iowa Trick-or-treating is referred to as Beggars Night?

Today I am honored to be standing here presenting the Conn Smythe trophy to my friend Duncan Keith. The Conn Smythe is awarded to the most valuable player during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. I first heard of this tremendous defensemen back in the 2009-10 season where he helped prevail the Chicago Blackhawks to their first Stanley Cup victory since 1961. It seems like Duncan never has a bad season and makes very few mistakes on the ice. The amount of time he puts into this game really shows his dedication and love for hockey.
The annual Phi Alpha Theta (PAT) initiation brunch is one of the most exciting events to take place every year. It took place on Friday, March 18, 2016 at the Alta Vista Country Club in Placentia and it was nice to see familiar faces, while meeting the new members of the organization. Guest enjoyed some omelets, prime rib, and pancakes, while Dr. William Haddad gave a powerful talk entitled “An Ode to Secular Tyrants: Reflections on the History of the Modern Middle East.” After the keynote, address came the initiation ceremony that included the traditional reading of the “Six Ages” of History. Thirty-six new members joined the ranks of Phi Alpha Theta and became apart of something much bigger-
Good morning, Trust you had a wonderful weekend, hope the screenwriting and projects are coming along. I forgot to mention the film screening Thursday, February 16 on campus. The film, 13th, is a documentary by director Ava DuVernay and makes an impactful connection between the 13th Amendment of the Constitution and the increasingly high rate of mass incarceration in the US, criminalization of African Americans, and privatization of prisons. If you are on campus and can come out the screening begins at 4p and a student-led discussion will follow at 5:45-7p.
The Noise On the night of Halloween all of the myths and legends of the supernatural come true. And these are not just children dressed up. These supernatural beings are real. I am going to tell you the story of my encounter with one of these beings.
The Story of Marie LaVeau “The Voodoo Queen” Marie LaVeau was one of the most well-known voodoo queen in the 1800s. Voodoo is the most misconceived religion, but with Marie’s supernatural powers that lend toward the scared of evil spirits, answering prayer requests. Marie LaVeau was born on Sept 10, 1794 in New Orleans, LA and was the daughter of Charles Leaveaux, and his slave mistress name Marqurite. Marie was mixed with black, white, and Indian. Some people stated that her father was a rich creole plantation owner.
The world’s happiest place, a place where everyone and the kids want and need to go to, the place where families spend that valuable time together. #Going to Disney World is like unwrapping gifts on Christmas with family, friends, and loved ones. It’s a great feeling being able to go and experience that. The speech was a very informative speech, addressing students with various facts and praises of the foundation of North Carolina Central University. NCCU is in fact praiseworthy. In 1910, James E. Shepard founded NCCU under the unique name, “National Religious Training School and Chautauqua for the Colored Race”. James E. Shepard was a pharmacist and religious educator, whom graduated from Shaw University, and later on in 1895, he married his wife Annie D. Shepard. Mrs. Shepard was the one who wrote the lyrics to North Carolina Central University 's Alma Mater, “Dear Old N.C.C”.

In the United States every second monday of October people around the country celebrate what is known as Columbus Day. People celebrate in order to remember how great and amazing Christopher was. In school we are taught the basics about him and what he did, but we don't learn everything about him. We learn who he was, where he came from, and what he did, but teachers leave out the horrible and inhumane things he did.
