Good Moring my name is Courtney and today in my informative speech I will be talking to you about the BP Oil spill, what caused it, the effect on the environment, and the cost and clean up after words. You’re swimming. Your world suddenly goes black and you can’t breathe. I will first begin talking to you about what caused the BP oil spill. According to aboutlife.com the Deepwater Horizon oil rig stationed off the coast of Louisiana exploded, killing 11 men, injuring 17 and forever changing wildlife habitat. The rig sank two days later. The oil rig was owned by the Swedish Company called Transocean. It had been contracted by BP, a British company. As stated by dosomthing.org “16,000 total miles of coast line have been affected, including the coast of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida.” Some theories are there was faulty concrete at the base of the rig causing a blow out with a pipe or human error. I can remember watching the news and seeing the clean-up of the oil spill. There were so many dead fish and animals that washed up on the beach along with big blobs of tar. There would be rescue workers trying to clean birds and other wildlife that had gotten coated in the oil. I can remember being so sad for the animals. Nursingschools.com state that since the oil spill was underwater it was much closer to the undersea life and able to cause damage much sooner. Many people would not eat seafood that came from the gulf for a very long time. Since seafood is such a huge part of the gulf coast, the economy was severely affected.
