Topic: Malaria in Ethiopia
Introduction: Malaria has consistently been a crisis in Ethiopia. This parasitic disease is 100% preventable and treatable. Malaria goes through epidemic and endemic cycles every few years, and is the leading Public Health issue in Ethiopia. The majority of Ethiopia is considered “malarious,” in other words the people living there are at risk for being infected with the disease. Rapid diagnostic tests have increased the amount of cases that can be easily diagnosed and treated; they are inexpensive and are being used more and more frequently.
