1. Innate immunity is referred as nonspecific immunity. There are two lines in this type of immunity: the first line of defense and the second line of defense. The reason why the innate immunity is referred as nonspecific because it defends against any and every type of pathogen. It does not target just one pathogen. This type of immunity includes mechanism like physical barriers, chemicals in the blood and internal pathogen-fighting cells and proteins. 5 examples of first line of defense: - Epidermis of skin: a barrier that protects the inside of the body from pathogens. The reason why the skin is non-specific is because it acts as a physical barrier. - Hairs: act as a barrier in places like the nose. The hairs prevents microbes and dust …show more content…

There are two different lines of innate defenses: first line and second line of defense. The first line of defense is the outside system that is ready to protect the body from infection. The first line of defense is defined as the skin and mucous membranes. The second line of defense is referred as a set of internal measures working together. They work together to fight against pathogens. Interferons are example of second line of defense. Interferons is a protein used to protect cells that are not infected from infections that surpassed the first line of defense. Another example is fever. A fever is when the body temperature abnormally rises caused by an infection. A fever helps reduce the growing rate of any pathogens. A fever also increases the ability of interferons.Interferons and fevers is considered to be non-specific because they only develops in response to a pathogen. They are cells and proteins used to fight infection. The first line of defense and second line of defense are similar because they both try to protect the body from pathogens that can cause damage to the body. They are both also present since birth. Regardless of the location of the infection, both defenses are always active. Both defenses will respond the same way. They will continue to used the same defenses over and over
