Everything I do revolves around my music. I have been around music all my life, whether it was listening to it or playing it. I’m very passionate about music and I love playing an instrument. The instrument
It was as simple as that. A love for harmony, both in music and in life washed over me. It was this love that guided me through my freshman year of high school. My artistic side grew, expanding past simply the choral arts. As the spring approached, excitement grew in the arts department.
Music is something that has always been an important part of my life. Whenever I am feeling a certain way, music helps me express my feelings and process them. Because I am a vocal musician, music weaves its way into almost all aspects of my life. I started singing and dancing at a very young age and fell in love! I don’t think I’ve stopped singing since!
All my life I had always loved to help others and set an example. I believe that community service through the program National Honor Society, has greatly impacted my life by showing me how I can put my underlying motivation and cast a full fire of passion. I have always loved to teach and motivate others to try their hardest in school to achieve something above of their expectations. From my love of teaching, tutoring and trying to help understand in "student talk" has always been a strong point to show how rewording something can greatly impact a student's understanding which is all worthwhile. I always make sure to keep my grades up and dedicate time to studying and persevering which has influenced others around me to follow my path to achievement.

As a future student of Florida State University, I have worked hard to become the best student I can be to better your community. I have learned to take hardships and turn them into positive fuel to reach my dreams. I have learned how to take loss and turn it into a gain. I was taught these skills by surviving a tough childhood. When my brother passed away I learned, at the age of five, that life can be unfair.
I am 17 years old and a senior this year at Cary-Grove High School. I live in Cary and have lived here all my life. School is a very important aspect of my life and I continue to challenge myself every day in order to give myself a chance at receiving a quality education. Some of my favorite hobbies include listening to music on Spotify and watching some of my favorite movies. When I am not listening to music of watching movies, I am most likely at some extracurricular activity.
Though the image of American Dream of today’s time has not drifted too far away from the original version, many noticeable changes have taken place in which makes the American Dream today a lot more different than the American Dream James Truslow Adams had coined in the first place. “From working for a picket fence to working for a private jet.” This statement is very accurate with the American dream because it was once about working to achieve safety, equality, and comfort. In these modern times it’s about putting in a lot of effort to obtain gluttonous wealth and extravagance. The issue with that is, can you really enjoy wealth if you have to keep working hard to achieve it?
Unfortunately, the pleasure of playing for others turned into technicalities with my focus solely on practice and dedication. With this intense focus, I lost sight of what I loved to do. During my freshman year, I suddenly decided to learn the flute to join and support the marching band in my brother’s senior year. Although I nearly passed out the first time I tried to play, it was phenomenal getting to perform with the seniors in their last year. As I picked up the flute, after quitting orchestra, a smile would cross my face as I discovered the enthusiasm for what I loved to do.
My identity is wrapped up in my love of music because I have been surrounded by it since I was little. When I was a toddler, I would sit for long periods of time and watch videos of kids singing songs. As I grew older I participated in my church's children's choir and even held solos in my elementary school chorus. When I reached middle school I joined my school's middle school chorus in 7th grade as an alto and 8th grade as a soprano. The transition between 8th and 9th grade was important for me because I took up voice lesson in 8th grade and went to my first music camp the summer before 9th grade.
I struggled in the beginning because I couldn’t find any love towards band and my instrument. But as my journey progressed I started to find the joy and the art in band. I might have taken 6 years for that to happen, but it was worth it because I couldn’t imagine my life without band. Band has taught me how to challenge myself and believe in my own abilities as a musician. It has also taught me how to be apart of a team and what it means to be responsible for my own part in activities.
I have always been a particularly musical person. When I was younger, I wanted to become a singer when I grew up, but upon joining the choir in elementary I realized I did not have the talent for singing that I thought I had. Continually singing off key and never sounding as good as my peers did, I decided to confine myself to singing at home where only my family could hear me. Despite this revelation that I was, in fact, a terrible singer, I still wanted to participate in some type of musical performance and decided to join the band in middle school. After trying out various different instruments, I settled on the flute and quickly fell in love.
“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything” (Plato). If my childhood was filled with anything: it was imagination. From my earliest memories of my cousin, and I putting on a sold out concert on my papaw’s front porch; to putting my baby dolls to sleep with lullabies. Music has always been a big part of my life: it was the one thing I could always count on, no matter where I went; and that still stands true today.
At a young age, I constantly wanted to express myself through music. I always found a way to incorporate music into my daily life, whether it be by blasting my favorite music, creating my own funky songs, or even having the opportunity to participate in my elementary school choir. My love for music actually took flight after I had decided to join my elementary school choir, however, in my opinion, it is not the most transformative moment in my life. After elementary
Even with my moods, whether it is sad or mad, music will help me get through it. It has absolutely been an enormous part of my life and who I am. Thus, this is to say that I have musical talent. I am in a high school marching band, where I play any piano-like instrument. My viewpoint with music has come to a simple conclusion, without it, I would not know who I am or what to do with my life.
