The insurance industry is about managing risk and protecting you from the unknown. As years have gone insurance policies and companies have changed drastically. Everyone in the United States is required to have insurance. People need car insurance, homeowner insurance, health insurance, and many others depending on their needs. Insurance changes rapidly. As government changes, so does the insurance world in order to fit those regulations. Insurance impacts every single one of us and the price we pay for it. I am interested in the insurance industry for it ever changing policies, but also because it will be where I will be spending my summer with Travelers insurance. With new regulations and forms of media insurance companies have to be able to respond and respond quick. This includes starting to prepare for the unknown. People get insurance because of the unknown and not knowing what will happen in the future. Insurance companies have to prepare for the unknown as well, “insurers are coping with longer-term, game-changing trends including the increased connectivity among household and workplace devices, the development of autonomous vehicles, and the rising threat of cyber-attacks” (Deloitte). Preparing for upcoming trends and moving into a new era, insurance companies have to change the way they work and how their employees work. Using technology whether the employee is at home or in the office and whether the customer is using the insurance app or call customer service insurance companies have to be able to do both. In order to have profitable growth they have to be able to do both. I find this very interesting and exciting because customer service and care in these industries are becoming more and more of a focus if convenience for the customer. Customer service is a big part of insurance and knowing that the insurance company’s brokers are saying correct information. I find that insurance companies must have great communication and training in order to excel in their industry. Every employee must know what their company’s policy is not just in general, but for their specific region and to be able to retell it to others.
