Most epic adventures don’t start out with an application and insurance waiver. My mother had told me that I needed to get a job this summer because she was tired of seeing me mope around the house. Throughout May she had been not so subtly putting application papers on my bedroom desk and other places in the house. Each time I saw one; I rolled my eyes then proceeded to throw it in the trash. Finally at the end of the school year she forced me to go to an interview at Lucky’s, a small amusement park that was at the edge of town. Most of the people that went there were families and teens that needed a place to smoke weed. It was extremely run down after years of abuse by children. “It’s an insurance waiver. Basically says that if you’re dumb and get your arm cut off while working here, it’s not our fault,” he grumbles. I should have just sucked up my pride and applied to McDonalds or Burger King. The crunch of the gravel beneath my feet taunts my bad decision as I walk back to my car. I whip open my door and toss in the pastel pink shirt the man gave me. He told me that it was customary and that I started work on Saturday, two days from now. The songs on the radio all cried for my vanishing happiness. On Saturday my mother basically had to force me out of the house. I hated the pastel pink shirt and everything about this job; little did I know that this would quickly change. When I arrived the parking lot was filled with a measly two cars, but it was only seven in the morning and I knew the daytime crowd would come later. Another employee arrived just as I stepped out of the car. She had pale skin and golden hair that cut off just at her chin.
