We all understand how to be a good Soldier. We must not only know those values, we must encompass them. As Dempsey says; (2010) “The Army Ethic begins with the moral values the Army defends” (p. 12). As a Human Resources Sergeant in the Profession of Arms, we have a calling. We have been called upon to take care of so many in so many different ways.
Now also for accountability in the Marine Corps is one of the highest things that are always being hit on. So in other words, being accountable may mean for you to be at a certain place at whatever time was given for you to be there. Next, another reason why accountability is important is because if you don’t keep track of your gear and you’re missing something when the time comes and you need that piece of gear that you were missing then you would be in a lot of trouble. All together being accountable is; well to the Marine Corps being called mission ready. That is why accountability in the Marine Corps is very or in greater words beyond important.

Trust which is “assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something in which confidence is place” (Merriam-Webster's Learner's Dictionary, 1828). Confidence which is “faith or belief that one will act in a right, proper, or effective way” (Merriam-Webster's Learner's Dictionary, 1828). When abuse of power is present in a organizations, Soldiers loose trust on their leaders as they will not be doing things for the better but just because he or she said so. At the same time Soldiers have to be able to understand the difference and cannot go by their assumptions. Trust is one of the easiest attribute to loose and the hardest to get back.
Accountability Is something that is very important and leader and superiors in the Military or in any job for that reason, for the simple fact that it is not only a requirement for you but also very important to your supervisors or chain of command depending on your situation. You can resort to accountability for many reason when it comes to daily productivity as a team or group. Maintaining accountability of anything wether it be equipment or people can be very helpful when it comes to dividing tasks and assignments or just keeping track of everybody or everything you are in charge of. Punctuality is also very important and plays a very big part in accountability, for example, a soldier is late to formation and doesn’t inform his supervisor, this can lead to his supervisor not being able to provide accurate numbers to his/her
Among these five characteristics; military expertise, honorable service, trust, esprit de corps, and stewardship of the profession, I believe that military expertise and stewardship of the profession are the two characteristics that make a leader excel in the presence of their peers. ADRP 1 defines military expertise as, “Military expertise is the design, generation, support, and ethical application of land power, primarily in unified land operations, and all supporting capabilities essential to accomplish the mission in defense of the American people”. In order to gain trust from your subordinates for them to follow your guidance, a leader must have military expertise. Without being an expert in your field, subordinates will not trust your guidance provided unto them. ADRP 1 defines Stewardship of the Profession as, “Stewardship is the responsibility of Army professionals to ensure the profession maintains its five essential characteristics now and into the future”.
Another aspect to look at is the moral of the unit. Moral of soldiers must be intact to hold soldiers together in the harsh environments they may face. Soldiers are often asked to work for long hours in difficult situations. They are asked to deploy to foreign countries far from home and perform tasks many choose not to do. For a soldier and further a unit to succeed in these tasks their moral must remain high.
This essay is about Accountability I did make formation so my NCO has given me a plam of action on the importance of Accountability. I was not at the correct place of duty for PT/Accountability formation at the correct time which is 0630 and each SM should arrive 10 minutes prior 0620. I had a Flat tire and I still arrived there was a miscommunication, granted on my half, there is still no excuse for me to miss a formation. To be accountable shows responsibility and I want to take responsiblity for my actions. The first plan of action I need to take is always making sure I am at the right place of duty at the right time or atleast 10 min prior which is practiced in the Military.
Meriam Webster defines profession as “a type of job that requires special education, training, or skill.” With that being said, to be a professional means that you have to be educated, well trained, and exhibit competent skills in the workplace. The Army profession however, is not just a job, but rather a noble calling. Unlike a job in which an individual is normally enticed with benefits and other employee perks to join an organization, an Army professional must have a strong inclination to serve his or her country, especially when its main duty is to provide security and defense to the society. An Army professional therefore, is an individual that has meet the Army’s standard of competence, character, and commitment.
As leaders, it is important to communicate our priorities and values so that every Soldier knows what is expected. Reading and absorbing this philosophy will give you a solid ground for what is expected from you and what you can expect from me. Rely on the Army values to help you make good decisions. In particular, remember the following values: • Integrity: Having integrity is, to me, one of the most important Army values. Having integrity means you do what is right even when no one else is around.
A career in policing requires an individual to meet a high standard for character and demonstrated behavior, in order to be developed into an effective officer. Succeeding in a police academy requires the candidate to display and apply integrity, a skill which must be developed before receiving admission. Integrity demonstrated through a police officer’s personal life, provides the foundation for a respected career. When presented with the opportunity to leverage a peace officer’s position for personal profit, an individual who has previously made selfless choices, is more reliable for operating within the law. Integrity as a term has the social implication of following ones beliefs, regardless of the opposition.
When a soldier and leader applies integrity into their day to day operation, they trust each other to do the right thing at all times. Honor plays also plays a major part in a soldier’s and leader’s work environment as well, that is just living up to the Army Values. Once they develop that habit they’re showing that they are honorable. An individual shows selfless service simply by put others before yourself. This is the mindset one must have especially on the battle field, because in that situation you are not fighting for yourself, you are fighting for the man or woman to the left or right of you so that they can make it home to their loved ones.
