The presidents of the 1920’s were very interesting figures. These men led our nation through the aftermath of a war, a scandal, a prosperous time, and a massive depression. Each of the president's legacies vary greatly, with some being mired in scandal and others remembered as not doing enough for the American people. The leaders of this time had a large impact on American society at the time and have left their mark on history. Some did this through foreign policy, domestic policy, and business and financial reform. The 1920’s are some of the most interesting times in American history, and the presidents of the time contributed to this era and mirrored it perfectly. Hoover exclaimed “We in America today are nearer to the final triumph over poverty than ever before in the history of any land”(White House), but only months later the stock market would collapse and plunge the nation into a depression. After the crash, Hoover discarded Republican officials who “believed there was nothing for the government to do but wait for the next phase of the business cycle”(Britanica 1). Hoover started by calling business leaders to the White House and urging them to not reduce wages or lay-off workers. Hoover also “asked Congress to appropriate money for public-works projects to expand government employment”(Britnica 1). Though Hoover attempted to act, the depression worsened and plunged the nation's economy into further depths of despair. The American people “began to blame Hoover for the calamity”(Britanica 1) and the homeless started to call their communities Hoovervilles. Hoover's intervention failed and calls for greater government intervention began to increase with some wanting “direct relief payments to the most impoverished of the millions of unemployed”(Britannica
