Trade has been a driving force in global history, shaping societies and economies across the world. It helped bring in many resources to other countries through cultural diffusion and opened new opportunities for citizens. Nevertheless, trading has also caused overproduction in certain areas and limited resources available. Trade has been shown in global history through Middle Eastern trade routes (Document 1), Timbuktu during the height of the Mali Empire (Document 2), and Caravans from the northern coast (Document 2).
Trade had a significant impact on culture and society. Cultures come together as goods and ideas are exchanged, resulting in diverse traditions, beliefs, and practices. For example, trade routes in the Middle East during the Post-classical era spread all throughout Asia and Africa, and even through sea routes using the Indian Ocean. (Document 1). The development of new economic systems helped connect people from various cultures and backgrounds as well. Trade grew the global market that crossed borders. For example, Timbuktu during the Mali empire had trade routes resembling a spider web. “Caravans from the northern coast bring cloth, arms, powder, paper, tools, hardware, sugar, tea, coffee, tobacco and a quantity of other articles to Timbuktu.”

The spread of modern technologies and inventions, such as the internet and social media in the modern era, has resulted from the exchange of goods and ideas between different regions. In the text of Document 3, Silicon Valley in the 21st century has been the center for computer and internet-based innovation since the late 1900s.
