Interpreting The Truth In Annabel's Just Listen

Have you ever kept a secret to yourself but feel felt the need to tell someone? Well that is exactly how Annabel feels in Just Listen. Just Listen is about a girl, Annabel, who has the perfect life. She’s a model, has a family, and many friends. But to her, her life is far from perfect. Her best friend Sophie had a bitter relationship that ended sourly. She then meets Owen, a handsome and determined friend who is very passionate about telling the truth. With Owen’s guidance, Annabel learns to trust others and start speaking the truth. Learning to speak the truth helped me question the motives of Annabel, evaluate the characteristics of Owen and the book, and visualize my favorite scenes in the book. One part that I liked was when the author went into detail about the characteristics of Owen. When we first met Owen he was described as a popular, handsome, and a belligerent guy. But later in the story we see that Owen is more of the better person. But one thing is for sure, he is painfully honest. "Like I said, for me, not saying how I feel when I feel it is a bad move. So I don't do it. Look at it this way: I might be saying you're fat, but at least I'm not punching you in the face" (Dessen 241). If I were to grade this book I would give it a 10 out of 10 because this story is very realistic and relatable to every teenager. Everyone has their secrets and not everyone keeps the secrets. Another reason this book was so good, was it kept you on the edge of your seat and always wanting more. Towards the end of the book Annabel starts to open up and tell Owen the truth about all of her secrets. Which I think is why I kept reading so fast. There were so many times that Annabel came so close to telling the truth, but she always held
